Dude.

Nobody's going to give you tabs, or even recommend tabs.

Not only do they suck, most of them are crap to read anyway.

Nowhere NEAR as coherant as guitar tabs, which generally line up all nice and pretty like.

You're drummer is making you think he knows more than he actually does.

He doesn't know how to read tabs.

WHICH ISN'T A BAD THING.

I don't know how to read them either and i've been doing this for a minute. But that is because I have access to some good sheet music, and i'm good at learning by ear, and am familiar enough with my instrument to improv or keep a basic beat. So I have no reason to.. nor do I really want to.

And since you are doing covers, they dont have to be spot on my friend. Get your boy to listen to them and try to figure them out by ear, if not, keep a basic beat with a similar feel that he knows (you have heard him play right?) and slowly start building on that.

No biggie. As long as it fits.

tabs arn't ahrd to learn, although I'm agains them I'll tell ya how it's done

each Line represents a part of the set, a Tom, a Bass drum ,Snare.... you should be able to tell because they have acronyms before the line "Sn,BD, T1, etc" and then when ever there is a mark on that line, you hit that drum,............simple?

Anytime my friend.

Hopefully your drummer understands feel enough to do it.

It shouldnt be that hard, just keep a regula 4/4 beat and add on to it, until he either comes up with something better, or learns the part by ear.. most of the time you can get it to the point where it's close and still sounds great.

Guitar tabs are better than listening by ear because you don't want to be off key, while drums don't necessarily have a key that they need to keep since it's more of a rhythmic instrument, so there part doesn't have to be as spot on as the gutiar. So he can listen to it and try to figure it out that way, if its not spot on or exactly alike, it's fine, as long as the beats line up with the band and it sounds good.

If you need anything else you know where to find me :-) .

Yeah it's pretty simple, but I prefer to read actual rhythms and what not off of a staff. I've read them before and just havent ever familiarized myself with them before. Still wouldn't be a bad peice of knowledge to obtain I assume. :thumb:

If they're "upside down" its pretty simple to copy and paste the lines to rearrange them.

But more then likely he's faking and doesn't know how to read them.

There is nothing wrong with drum tabs, and whoever says there is, is to put it very simply, wrong. They were and indispensable resource, however there are no longer any quality drum tab sites in existence. Either transcribe it yourself or make up something.

That mandala is so ****in sexy.

go to a music (As in sheet music) store and ask for the transcript of whatever song you're looking for.

otherwise... 99% of the time you should be able to pick up a drum track just by listening.

kid calls himself punk..wow.. ask your drummer friend to listen to the song. if you guys play punk it should be quite easy to pick up. unless you are playing dream theater or rush or somethng way harder than punk, tabs and music sheet(most of the time) are not necessary

Bear in mind, that sounds like musical snobbery. Not havin a go at ya, i'm just telling you so you don't do the same in real life.

There's something to be learned from everything. That includes what not to play.

learn the part by ear, transcribe it or, like others said, play you own part that fits (recommended).

that's directed at your friend of course. have fun :D

Tell ya what we will do. If you was to name the songs, I will listen to them and tab them out into proper drum tablature. I will then scan them and e-mail them you... Ok?

tabs are really not hard to figure out...
the H | line means hihats, x means play it closed, o means play it open...
R | is the ride... x is the bow, o is the bell...
all the T | lines are toms, usually arranged top to bottom (the top line being the highest tom, and the bottom line being the lowest)... or sometimes they'll do T1|, T2|, etc...
FT| is floor tom...
B | is bass drum...
S | is snare drum...
C | is crash cymbal...
sometimes they'll have a key explaining what all the letters mean... and if they have any more than the basic ones i just mentioned they usually do have a key or explain what they are somewhere... all the drums have o's for the hits and the cymbals have x's and sometimes o's

I mean, into proper standard notation. Sorry, was a little tired!

Has he not considered learning the covers by ear?

Will take me no more than 20 mins, I will just slow the song right down, and play it on my computer. Tab it as it plays. Then I just scan and send. Easy really.
