Hey guys, right now im looking at either a pro M or a saturn. Im thinking Id like the Pro M because its a few hundred bucks cheaper, but I dont like how the floor tom mounts are attached to the drum. Do the saturns use isolation mounting on all their toms? And does the saturn have any other huge advantages over the pro M? Thanks guys.

I dont know about the mounts.

The saturn has a few ply's of walnut.

The saturn comes with better stock heads and better hardware, buy whatever one you prefer the sound of.

The Saturn floor tom legs are "mounted" off the same ISO mounts that the rack toms have, so they are not attached via brackets drilled to the shell...

The saturns have beefyier hardware.

Thanks for the responses guys, I guess my only question now is do the ISO mounts really make a difference in sound?

Although there are different vairables to consider, overall ive always prefferd the sound of drums where the hardwhere isnt going into the drum, just sounds like your getting more of the full drum...if that makes sense

The floor toms are more resonant on the ISO mounts than if they have the legs. Overall, the saturns are great sounding drums that I think you would be really pleased with. If you have any more questions, I can answer them as well.(I have a 7-piece mapex saturn in the emerald starburst finish)

according to Mapex
Saturn floor I.T.S. tom legs are isolated from the shell and include spring loaded feet, that enhance sustain and increase projection

I would go Saturn, but I like the Walnut

But I dont think you can go wrong with the Pro M either
They are currently running the Free Black Panther Snare Drum with Pro M's

I honestly think you will enjoy either of the two equally. I really don't think the tom legs will matter considering most people tune the floors low anyways.

But I do like alot of the saturn's finishes better then the pro m's

I think Im going to go Saturn. I love the finishes they offer, and I know I'll eventually want all ISO drums, so I might as well buy once. As for the free BP, massmusic offers a choice of free gear with the saturns, includung either a Trad Maple snare or a Birdseye Maple snare(both BP's), so the deal will be as sweet as the Pro M's.

Thanks for all the input guys! :chug:

Oh, and to any owners of Saturns, how are the stock heads? I seem to remeber them being remo's; any good?

Im stuck between Electirc Blue Sparkle and Twilight Stardust. Im planning on going to some shops to see if I cant see any of the finishes in person; seeing them via internet just isn't enough.

Laser Ivory isn't bad either, it has a nice vintage look to it.

I'm telling you the emerald stardust is the sweetest. I'll post new kit pics up tomorrow or monday. Oh, and I believe this year the stock heads for saturns are emps over ambs.

It's the studio setup and i added an extra bass drum and an 8" tom. They really are amazing drum set u will not be disappointed. They can be tuned to such a deep warm sound it's fantastic lol. They can also be tuned pretty high if u like because of the maple but that walnut really adds a lot of attack and low end to these drums.
