For me:

-When you say you don't like a band, and a fan of that band uses the arguement "they're more popular/talented than you'll ever be."

-Also on that note, when you say a band sucks, and that same type of person responds with "If they're so bad, why do so many people like them?"

-When metal fans can't admit to liking a little bit of pop music. I mean, what, are you out of the tr00 grim kvlt club if you mention you like sexy back?

Go.

There is actually something to that argument though. At least if people have liked them for a while. I guess it's valid to use in the case of 70s bands, if not modern top 40.

the so many people liking them thing isn't really a valid argument, because just because something is popular it doesn't mean it is technically good. look at the amount of people who eat mcdonalds or watch big brother. just because it is popular, it doesn't mean it is good.

and with this, i leave for bed. night.

Quit it with the Justin crap already. Do you really want to know why certain people don't like it? Because it's not a universally good album. Quit acting like it is.

I am sick and tired of all of you pansies acting like it's cool (and even "indie", wtf) to like Justin, and that it somehow makes you open-minded. You're wrong, get over yourself.

Agreed so hard. It just sounds plain awful from what I've heard. The music is supposedly a re-invention of pop music, it just hurts my ears.

I'll listen to pop music. But good pop music.

Okay, you think that. That doesn't mean you're more or less open-minded, "indie" or musically educated than me. It just means your preferred listening material is commercial pop/r'n'b. Mine isn't.

I never said it was a universally good album, or that it made me open-minded. In fact, there's tons of music that I still haven't been exposed to yet.

I used it as an example of how some people can be really retarded in the way that they think liking a little bit of pop music will make them uncool.

I hardly bother to notice any of these annoying things anymore, but one thing which really does annoy me is that people will call lesser known, non-mainstream music weird sometimes, but they won't realize that the mainstream music to which they listen could be equally as weird/bizarre, but it's not considered so because it's accepted by most people as being normal.
I guess this is kind of a bad argument by me, as you could say this about pretty much anything, but some of those rap songs are seriously weird as hell, and nobody even notices.

I know like two people that listen to the same music I listen to, but for some reason recently we haven't really spoken to each other. So like I've had to deal with dumbass people, and because I don't like doing that much I usually hang out at home by myself or with my sister because no one else understands me.

I really don't have friends anymore because they liked to talk about music and for some reason I'd always turn into this huge dickhead and make fun of everything everyone else liked.

I bet I could meet some new elitist people to chill with, and it'd be pretty cool. But I'm not in the scene and stuff, so I don't know where to find these dudes. Maybe I should add everyone that looks like they'd be into dope music to my Myspace friends list and spam bulletins.

People who think 'sleaze' is wearing non-fitting PVC or leather trousers, drinking JACK DANIELS, talking about jack daniels in every sentence, and just generally being two groupies short of a threesome. Scrap that, ANYONE who uses the word 'sleaze', whether its a GNR throwback band, or the Daily Mail when talking about politicians.

All the current 'indie' fans who suddenly love rock music, play guitar and are growing their hair, when they were the people who 5 years ago were listening exclusively to Blazin' Squad and Beyonce and calling you a goffikk

Also...
"So what kind of music do you listen to?"
"Everything, man. From Blink 182 to 50 cent to Miles Davis to Metallica to Beethoven to Led Zeppelin. You name it, I listen to it, pal."
"Red House Painters?"
"What?"

holy crap, yes. thank you. :chug: :chug: :chug:

when people stop listening to bands because they get too popular

a friend of a friend stops listening to certain bands when their fanbase grows above 25 people, and if he turns you onto them, he will criticize you for liking them when he stops

That's me.

I also like to show off the bands I like to the people I know, and then get mad when they ask me where they can get their album or that they really like them. But I also get mad when they say the band sucks, because it's like, "Dude, you know nothing about music."

I don't know what to do.

lmao, this girl that was sitting next to me..she's gone now. urgh.

yeah so the very first class of this course in september we're doing nothing, just talking about music with our screenprinting teacher. I can't remember how it came about, but:
Girl: "Some people actually don't like music? Surely EVERYONE likes music.."
Teacher: "You'd be surprised, it might be because you're young and you don't realise, but lots of people just like 'tunes' instead of music. What do you listen to?"
G: "uh... *gets out phone* *plays a bit of some horrible modern r&b remix thing* this?"
T: "..."
G: "and uh... this?"

basically we pwned her so hard that day, she proved that she knows NOTHING about pop culture of any sort.

since then we've found out that she doesn't know:
the Beatles (or any members), the Stones, Led Zep, Ramones, Grandmaster Flash, NWA, Cypress Hill, Dr Dre, David Bowie, Trance, Drum'n'bass, proper R&B, and so much more.

Its hilarious, she got self-owned so hard. Ahahahahah.

Urgh she's outside singing lion king songs, and she's absolutely tone-deaf.

Not Radio 1 mate, one can only hope she gets that mature.

She's one of the people who doesn't know what artist a song is by etc. urghh

She just traded our broken guillotene with a nice new one from the room down the corridor, erased their course name and wrote ours on it + our room. saaafe. I can now trim my work in peace

no radiostations play anything like that here.

the "rock" stations tend only to play indie, and there are no stations heavier than that.

Yeah there's not really any rock radio.

There's Virgin which is pretty commercial, plays all the mainstream rock stuff, its passable.

There's no heavy metal radio of any sort though, at all.

Some local station used to have a metal show on mondays, but it was all like, Devil Driver, Bleed The Sky, and Fear Factory.... some new In Flames now and again, and some older KSE and LOG (this was like 3 years ago?), I dunno what happened to that, I guess it's not acceptable to have Satan music on the radio.

I don't like bands who constantly scream, Brieing, High voiced blokes, Shredding or Musical wanking

a few things that piss me off

The list would be kinda long, i'm very selective about my music.

Most people who listen to good music don't like screaming. I'm not talking about the, "I'm kind of singing but I'm screaming too" deal, because I like that. I'm talking like, Children of Bodom screaming. That's not singing, it's wanky bullshit.

What I hate is when people are so obsessed with genre classifications that if you happen to broadly categorize a band as something that they disagree with, they go nuts. This is usually because they think that "metal=good" and so if a band is not good, it can't be metal.

This is exclusive to the internet, pretty much. I guess cause if anyone was that much of a douche irl, they'd get stabbed.
