I JUST started playing this game last night, but I don't really know too much whats going on. I beat that big minatour guy, but just traded hits with him till he was defeated. I have no idea how to create my own weapons, or basically how to do anything else in the game
anyone else have experience with this title?

Try going to gamespot.com and checking out the hints and cheats page for the game. It's called Weapon Guide by JByers.
Unless it's blocked from where you are.

can't
it will save it as an HTM, which will display nothing

I have this game, I thought it was great but I never really got too far with it.
I have to complete it one day.
I loved the battle system.

im basically clueless as of now
i started playing it last night, got about 40 minutes into it. I love the combat (very similar to parasite eve) but with my dungeon diving.

i just beat that minotaur boss man. Seemed dumb that I couldn't defend, and basically traded hits with him, and used some healing items, but like i said, im pretty clueless.
I got about 10 minutes further than that (lots of dialogue, and had to find a save spot)

I can't really remember but I think you can't actually defend, you just equip better armour so that you take less damage in battles

oh
i saw that they had an in-game manual, but it wasn't comprehensive AT ALL. I read something about being able to DEFEND, but i presume that its some latent ability i have to unlock later in the game

I've played this game about six years ago, I really hated it, you're just underground for a long time, or as long as I played it, so I quit.

yea, apparently the large majority of the game is in the catacombs. Im hoping the combat will get more advanced in the next two hours of play time :/

I liked the fact a lot of it was underground...

It does get significantly more advanced, you can only get so far in that game by slugging away. I found it did get very hard around the mid game, because there simply wasnt enough Experience points to go round and I couldnt get Ashley strong enough.
Mint game though, great art direction, aswell as the inclusion of Shakespeare characters

yea, im really hoping it gets like that, and fast. this chugging crap is pretty lame, tbh.
Im used to playing FF tactics, so this sh!t isn't going to fly with me for too long

well, as long as it has very little to do with the GBA game (tactics), and has the rule cards completely thrown out the window, im sure ill buy it day 1 :D

Basically you have to keep combining weapons within their categories to raise the quality of the steel and improve range, etc.
Some basic tips:
- Stash one of every type of blade in your storage container, and try not to carry weapons you're not using or upgrading. If you begin picking up more than one certain type of blade, throw it out for unique ones.
- When you come around to stashing weapons and parts you've picked up, make sure you disassemble them before putting them in the chest. Some **** blades might be combined with good handles, and some good blades might be combined with **** handles. Also, there's a limit to the number of assembled weapons you can stash so this strategy increases storage.
- Before proceeding with a certain combination, check the stats that evolve on the new weapon before actually going through with the combination. (This is pretty obvious I think.)
- Do not combine different weapon types like blunt with edged or edged with peircing. There are a few exceptions though.
- Do not combine a higher quality steel with a lower quality steel, except those within two categories (can't remember which).
- Just like you can chain attacks, you can also time defense. Timing defense and setting the right one is extremely important for tough bosses.

Yeah i was equally puzzled, i haven't gotten too far with it. Bought it ages ago.
I remember i got up not far after you were and it was proving to difficult to progress. I didn't have the patience at the time but i may give it another run.

You defend like you chain attacks. When he hits you, you can hit one of triangle, circle or x and it'll cause the defense effect to kick in. It's mainly things like reflect damage, but there's some reduce damage ones as well.

Yeah, Impact Guard, Siphon Soul, Absorb Magic and Absorb Damage are the most useful ones.
Absord Magic is a necessity in the depths of Iron Maiden.
