Most beliefs I feel are just naive. If you don't know, you don't know. Don't just form random ideas to explain things you don't have a clue about.

No I don't think it is either, but it gives us a fair idea.

Can't remember - only 25 or so questions isn't it? and at most around 7 options per question?

something like that. A more in-depth one would be too long and boring. You probably wouldn't be bothered with thinking about each individual question if there were 100 questions......

EDIT: regarding Danger bird's post

You don't really need to look into it. It's a scam religion. But what religion isn't?

Honestly, I don't know enough about Hinduism to take an educated stance on it. It's the one religion I haven't really looked into yet. Odd, since it's one of the biggest. (Or at least I understand it to be)

Wha? What were you doing the first time around?

Mr. Ron, if you're reading this, you seem to be pretty knowledgable when it comes to religion and related topics. Got any suggested readings for me?

The classics to get started, like Nietzsche, Voltaire and any other renaissance/enlightenment figures you can get your hands on.

More modern writings you should look at, include of course, Dawkin's series of books, Atheists, Agnostics and Deists in America: A Brief History by Peter M. Rinaldo, Atheism: The case against god by George H. Smith, Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris, Atheist Universe: The Thinking Person's Answer to Christian Fundamentalism by David Mills and The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason by Sam Harris.

Those are some good books to get you into it all. All of them can be found on Amazon or any other large Book retail chain like Borders.

Yup. For 6 years.

I began to rethink my beliefs in 7th grade. Quickly thereafter I became an agnostic because I still wasn't sure of where to go form there, but I still didn't think there was a god. After a year or so, I became a full blown atheist. Every mass I refused to get the Eucharist, I didn't say "under god" in the pledge, I didn't sing along in mass anymore and the like.

Fun site, but I reckon spiritualism is a little too diverse to be settled with a bit of point and clicking!

What the hell is a quaker?? Not detailed enough to distinguish between faiths. For instance there should be more faith specific ones like do you believe there is a limit to whose allowed into heaven (JW's), or do you think the Virgin Mary is more powerful than God (R Catholics).

What makes you slip back into religion?

do you think religion has a placebo effect on people?

i definitely have thought so. i see a lot of people who pray strongly (not exactly ignorantly) and who feel they get strength through doing so. in my younger years it was the case for me. i think in many forms of prayer people open to what they truly NEED and see their vices, and by doing so they feel this deity will assist them in being better persons in a moral sense.

Absolutely. It's one of the main reasons so many people buy into mysticism or religion, it makes them feel comfy.

LittlePound, what's wrong with homosexuality?
It's a sin, and so like all others sins it's wrong. It's that simple.

its a sin according to the bible, but to any normal person it is a basic freedom to have autonomy over one's own body.

LittlePound
01-09-2007, 07:10 PM
we have the freedom to do what we wish with our bodies, but that doesn't mean everything we do is right.
Homosexual people are no different than anybody else, they are sinners like you and i that's it. I'm no more against homosexuality than i am lying, or stealing, cheating, murder, etc. It's just another sin and because it is a sin i won't support it.

there is no victim of homosexuality.

the homosexual person is the victim of the sin and because of it, without the saving power of Jesus Christ, will suffer the judgment for believing Satan's deceitful lies too.

Why are some people plagued by homosexuality, cursed to live with the dreadful sin and to restrain every urge it creates, while others are born into a sinless life?

How can he believe Satan's lies when Satan doesnt talk to people. Why did God create Satan, Why doesn't he destroy Satan and rid the world of evil, does he enjoy seeing us struggle?

Know whats funny about the whole homosexuality is a sin thing? If god knows all, he would have known people would be gay and stop it from happening, since he's looking out for us and all, and letting someone burn in hell for something he could totally nip in the bud in their creation is a pretty dick-ish thing to do, now isn't it?

Why does god let people be gay? Does he need more firewood in hell to warm his palace in the sky? Maybe he views gay people as an expendable source of kindling?

lol this reminds me of Jesus Camp

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486358/

so you keep saying this "sin" word. but in all honesty, nothing is that black and white. there is no objectivity when it comes to morality and anyone who says otherwise is selling something or totally brainwashed. there is no preset good and bad. of course some things stand out as "wrong" more than others, but it doesn't make it all two tone.

and for the record there is no rulebook by which things are listed as "sins". just because the catholic church thinks so, does not make it so. and let us not forget the many within that very church who see nothing against homosexuality. there are probably more gay men and women in loving relationships than there are heterosexuals. we are willing to support Britney Spears and these other idiots in their meaningless and crap marriages. but when two loving men wish to get married, you frown down on it because some guys say so????
