I got a tascam box today and it comes with cubase LE. now my problem is that it doesnt reconize any inputs. i am using a mac.
in my set up it wants me to go to do
specify the ASIO Driver for the interface that uses an ASIO driver, there only shows "built-in audio, built in audio(1) and built in audio(2). i cant change anything. I have no idea what it isnt reconizing the input or anything. if anyone has some advice would greatly appreciate it.
tbh I'd use garageband over a stripped down packaged cubase
go to your system preferences>sound and set your input to the tascam (It should be recognised and just show up
I don't really know much about cubase, but that's all I've ever had to do hooking up interfaces

i already tried that, when i set it like that is says
the selected device has no input controls.
and then i open up cubase again and it isnt working.
i mean i really dont know what im doing on the mac as of yet. but it shouldnt be that hard to set this up the right way. trying to think if i should just get pro tools or something, seems easier to use from what ive seen.

Did you install the hardware and hardware drivers?
It sounds like OSX doesn't recognize the necessary drivers for the interface.
Another thing to consider: are you using ASIO drivers for the output? ASIO works in what is called "full duplex" mode. What that means is that you specify the output, and the device expects to handle both inputs and outputs automatically, which is counter-intuitive.
The next stage is then to make sure the VST inputs are associated with the correct hardware. Devices -> "VST Inputs" should give you a dialog of all the available hardware input connections for Cubase. You need to make sure that the "power" button in the dialog is illuminated for each set of inputs you wish to use.

k so it came with the driver which iinstalled first, then cubase and i plugged in tascam to the computer,
the vst multitrack is screwy, when i set up which device to use
for the driver it says "built-in audio,built-in audio(1), built-in audio(2)
thats in the ASIO driver. it doesnt seem to be reconizing anything.if i got to devices/vst inputs it says "no inputs"
so i really am not sure what to do. i already reinstalled the driver's it came with. i think i need an ASIO driver or something, im a little confused. im gonna call the place where i got it tomorrow to see if they can help me out
Have you seriously considered just using garageband instead?
I'd reccomend it over cubase le.

also no i cant get it to go through onto garage band either. i dunno why its all messed up
How does it connect to your computer?
You plug it in, and it should show up in the sound panel of the system preferences as a possible input/output. If it doesn't, I have no idea what to do with it and it's possible it may not be compatible with OSX
But seriously, though I may be biased here (longtime garageband user that's moved on to logic) I'd take GB over a severely stripped down Cubase (they don't exactly give you the full version bundled with your average interface)

What abilities does Garageband provide that Cubase SE/LE does not? It's actually a pretty complete feature set for the basics. I can't imagine Apple is giving away a whole bunch more for free.

Hey Guitarplayer,
I got the same tascam audio interface with cubase and i have the same problem.
I havent really taken much time to try to figure out though because ive been lazy so ive just been using garageband.
But for garageband, I noticed that it doesnt really recognize the interface until i TURN ON GARAGEBAND then AFTER that PLUG in the INTERFACE.

ya it shows up in the sound panel just fine. i can strum something on m guitar and i can see the levels moving, but when it comes to having it actually work with garage band or cubase thats another story. im not sure whats going on so friday im taking it as well as my laptop to the store for them to take a look.
The main limitations I found in garageband were an inability to edit audio at very high resolutions (It goes plenty far enough to get edits were you need them, it's just irritating sometimes) and you're limited to two inserts per track (again, mostly just irritating). Oh, and you can only automate volume and pan (which can be easily worked around)
otherwise, it's very complete software, and very intuitive to use.
My arguement here may not be too strong because I haven't spent much time with cubase of any kind, but from what I have seen, garageband will be more powerful and easier to use than cubase LE. SE probably has it beat on features, though.
if the levels show up in the sound preferences, did you try recording something? If you can record and get a waveform to show up, something's wrong with your output settings.
