Hey guys, i usually lurk around the drummer forums cuz im a drummer, but im writing this question concering my brother's basses. OK he has a deluxe active p-bass and a deluxe active jazz bass. (the mexican made ones) now his birthday is coming up and ive done some research and found the quarter pounders thinking itll be a good upgrade, now heres my question, would the p bass quarter pounder set work on an active bass? and also on the pbass there are two like fatter pick ups then there is one jazz pick up...now do i upgrade the jazz pick up as well? cuz i noticed there are quarter pounders for the jazz (which i plan on also purchasing for his active jazz deluxe) but they are sold in a set of two right? please help me with these questions, thanks!

Quarter Pounders are passive. Now if he is happy with the actives, buy him a set of EMG actives (emginc.com). You could swap out the actives for passives but will need new pots and stuff. Likely be easier to upgrade to EMGs which come with all the pots and stuff.

CCR pretty much nailed it. Quarter Pounds will work, but it isn't a straight swap you will have to do some re-wiring. I can't think of a reason you would need to change the pots, the battery only powers the pick-ups not the electronics. As for the jazz pick-up the do sell sets in the P-J combo im pretty sure i have seen QP sold like that, you shuld look into that more extensivly.
If you don't feel like doing the work for installing the QP's you can jsut get some active pick-ups which shuld be a straight up swap(make sure they run of the same voltages...). If you want pick-up recomendation you shuld tell us what type of music your brother plays (rock, jazz, funk...) also if he plays with a pick, slaps, fingerstyle......

Actually, on the deluxe Fenders, it is the pre-amps that are active, not the pickups. So, what I'm saying is that his pups are passive now, and will only sound better when you upgrade them to the SD Q pounders.

I'm sorry but what the fúck are you two on about?
The pickups are passive, the pre-amp is active, as always.
EMG's would be even harder to put in due to thier connections and the fect you would need a battery for them, which is more routing and wiring.
QPs are good though.
Bartolinis would be the better suited sound though.

Whoa. I went by the assumption the pups were active. I don't know anything about basses. Give me a break. I tried.
EMG pickups have preamps inside them. The preamp makes the pickup active.
kk. :)
