Hope by Swallow The Sun. A mammoth of an album...

I'm so glad they went back to what they had done on The Morning Never Came after the disappointing Ghosts Of Loss.

But they stole one of the riffs that is in a song I'm writing. The opening riff to These Hours Of Despair. It's almost exactly what I had wrote.

I just found a new one. Novembers Doom. I downloaded it today, and from the 3 minutes into it I am, it's owning my ***. They're developing their own sound very well. There's still a little bit of Opeth in them, but there's more original than not this time around.

Linkin Park keep citing prog bands as major influences on the new album. I'm getting a little psyched which should seem disconcerting.

I highly doubt you'll find much evolution, their songwriting process has stayed exactly the same since 1996... though, I kind of am expecting to see something different, as rap metal just isn't really the rage anymore... we'll see I guess.

Once more, who else is looking forward to Job For A Cowboy with an actually skilled drummer for once?

Not me. They still need a talented guitarist or two, bassist and vocalist. :p

Uhhh....the band's name is Cynic. They were an influential death metal band in the 90's. He said "new" because they're reforming, although with different members.

I'm kind of dismayed that those are actual lyrics from the new PT...I mean, Steve has never been a master lyricist, but in general they're aesthetically good. Those all just seem clumsy.

I can only assum there's a very tongue-in-cheek tone to much of the album.

Anyway, I'm not really looking foward to anything at the moment, except for local stuff which you guys would have no interest in anyway.

Skimming over the thread though, I saw some mention new Judas Priest, so if that's happening I may have to get excited.

In an odd way, I really am looking forward to the Metallica album. This is the first since Kill Em All that they've really had something to prove. I mean, after Metallica, they sold a bucketload of records doing whatever the hell they wanted, and kept their fans happy by making them think they'd go back to being heavy when they were sick of hurdy-gurdys and Marianne Faithful. But then they did it, and just about everybody on Earth hated it. Now that they haven't got the critics OR their fans on their side, it'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

Linkin Park keep saying they'll do something completely different from everything else they've done, so that'll be fun, coz they'll either pleasently surprise me or crash and burn horribly.

Also Dredg, and if a new Cynic album does materialize (which I doubt), that.

Is there a new Jesu this year?

I hope you're lying about this. Are those actual PT lyrics?

Iai - That's a good point. I like what I've read about how they're recording it, plus they're working with Rick Rubin and a guy can rarely go wrong there.

And the new Jesu has already leaked.

Well...the first thing apparently is; it showed up in a press release. The second ones I heard myself live, they were about the only lyrics I could hear clearly enough to identify. The third ones, somebody on PTF mentioned and it sounded like part of the chorus of The Beast (which oddly reminded me of the chorus of Smells Like Teen Spirit, in terms of meter and melody)

The EP's are available for free download on the Cog website. http://www.cog.com.au

I just hope they don't take the sell out route with their new album. The tracks lifted as single from The New Normal blow pretty hard.

Also, lol @ Cog not being able to leave the country last year.

My Enemy & Run are the two I was really referring to. Silence Is Violence is pretty average as well imo, but it wasn't released as a single.

Resonate was a single as well, but I don't mind it.

And for reasons they obviously aren't going to be flouting all over the place, Lucius wasn't allowed into the US for some reason, and it ended up taking them a few months to actually get a Visa approved.

You didn't. It was more a stab at the repetitive simple nature of the song.
