Alice In Chains is one of my favorite bands of all time. I have their Unplugged on CD and DVD. I don't have any of their other cds. I have the DVD of the MusicBank or whatever with a bunch of their videos and some home footage. Jerry Cantrell is just perfect with his tone on songs like Nutshell. The bluesy solos he does on Unplugged give me chills. Bleed the Freak is one of my top songs from them after Nutshell. I like Brother, Down in a Hole, Heaven Beside You, and Angry Chair are my favorite songs along with Rooster, Man in the Box, and Them Bones.

I love AIC, one of my favorite bands of all time.

I have missed them 2 times, I hope they come near again.

My top 5 tracks:
Sludge Factory
Nutshell
Sickman
Love, Hate, Love
Rotten Apple

Still there isn't a single song of AIC that bores me, I like all their material.

When I think of soul I think of Layne Staley. That guy had it.

I saw them not too long ago (for free, to boot) and it was great. I can't pick a favorite song, never will be able to. My favorite album would be the Unplugged.

That line always made me chuckle. AiC are one depressing band. I used to listen to Dirt all the time when I was driving. Junkhead is the most underrated song of any album in my opinion. The stuff is depressing as hell, i remember reading an interview where Layne said he was so ****ed up he would crap his pants because he couldnt even control it, as well as how the other band members werent even friends anymore.

Depressive songs and AiC go hand in hand, without it, songs like Nutshell never would been written though. Which is a good thing? :thumb:

Emotion is a strange thing to quantify like that. Duvall would never be able to sing Layne's songs with the same emotion, sure, but emotion is expressed in different ways. I think it's very difficult to say somebody sings with more emotion than another, some snigers just have an emotive sound to their voice.

Cantrell's solo stuff is great too - Ive heard all Degradation Trip Disc 1&2 and a bit of Boggy Depot. Spiderbite, Bargain Basement Howard Hughes and Psychotic Break are all pretty fantastic. Tbh, most of Degradation Trip is very good, except a couple of filler tracks (e.g. What it Takes).

True, but there are definitely some technique's geared towards having more emotion in your voice. Robert Plant was a master of that, as was Layne Staley.

As far as the Cantrell stuff goes its only about half as good as Chains to be honest and much of it sounds bland and too similiar, but as a whole definitely a good listen.
