I've decided that when I can afford the materials I am going to create a beast never before seen in this world :D

Thats assuming I can get this design down to a key, as there is going to be alot of tension to the neck imo.

My design is to combine one neck, one body, bass pickups, humbucker pickups, volume for each, tone for each, switches for each, a 5 string bass bridge of some sort, and a 7 string floyd rose bridge for the thinner strings.

I'm planning on drawing some concept drawings today, hopefully I can scan them and post them up later.

I have never built a guitar before, been playing for a few years now, I know how everything works electrics wise inside the guitar (I think  ) and I am pretty good at planning things right before I do it.

Place your bets people, reckon its even possible? What do you think?

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Question is, what are you trying to achieve?

Being able to play bass or guitar, or both, at the same time on one neck. Guitars need more notes imo :)

agh i wanted to post that sanbass thing. The video on it is hilarious.on a serious note, i think it would just be easier to have 2 necks and a bass on 1, guitar on the other. It would be hard to play otherwise

yeah that's the problem, but if the idea is mostly for tapping then it could work

if it were all one neck, woudn't it have wicked fanned frets?

Yea that sanbass is pretty much the idea, cept with 2 seperate bridges and ones a floyd rose

im guessing at the minute but the neck is probably gunna be about 5 inches wide

I did think of 2 necks but that defeats any possibility of smooth scale runs from bass to standard guitar notes, which is one of the things I want to achieve.

Can anyone recommend strong wood types for the neck?

i'd consult a lutheir about this project. they could probably tell you what woods to use and stuff like that.

what amp would it run through if your combining guitar and bass pickups and strings? im guessing a bass amp but it would probably sound rather lame

He said it's going to have bass and guitar pickups, so he could run each of them to their own output.

Then he could use a bass and guitar amp, or a full range PA.

He could probably use a keyboard amp, I think they generally have multiple inputs. A lot of Stickists use keyboard amps so that they can have one nice package, but separate channels.

True that, but then you'd need some stomp boxes if you want distortion on the guitar, and a lot of people prefer amp distortion.

Personally I would use separate amps because stereo = secks.

It sounds like my sister ****ing around with my guitar.

Just randomly and badly taping frets

It looks absolutely mental, but when I turned the sound on I was disappointed. Granted, it is a bad quality recording, but even taking that into consideration, it's pretty rubbish. Good idea though. Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the necks? A bass neck is longer than a guitar neck, and I can understand the fret difference if the bass part is fretless and the guitar part is fretted, but that one the dude was playing on the video was fretted all the way across. How does it accomodate the difference in neck scales?
