Meh, I can't do proper two handed tapping like piano stuff...

The stuff I've been doing is for my band. This piece has me holding my left hand in one place, and doing tapping/sliding with my right. It's the sliding that hurts :(

That's how I started tapping. I set a basic chord, and used my right hand to tap. The stuff I am going through now is just stuff from a low level piano book - simply melody/counter-melody. Not anything particularly tricky.

Well I can do tapping like the outro to Skies of Millennium Night by Sikth (which is insanely cool, but not hard once you get the pattern down). I mosty only use my middle finger though. I can't get my other ones to work in conjunction with it :/ Because they're not just moving like on a piano where it's only in one dimension, they're moving very close to each other in two directions - left/right and up/down, and I find it hard to get them to do that :(

I can play bassguy's Super Mario theme too. Badly.

I use all my fingers to tap. At first it was easy to just use my index and ring and call it a day, but my ambitions are to one day be able to play pieces in the style of Adam's version of the Maple Leaf Rag, which means using all your fingers to really take advantage of what the instrument has to offer.

I want to be able to play with all my fingers, but it's so hard. And then separating my left and right hand? Oh em gee, it's so hard, and there's nobody who can teach me to do that around here... It would take more than is possible in a standard lesson I think anyway :p And I'm too poor for lessons ^_^

I don't want to use it for solo stuff, but I've been listening to Element of Surprise, and there's a part in Gradeschool which really sticks in my mind - the bit at the end with the right hand tapped melody. Sounds so awesome... yet I'm nowhere near Jean's level :p I do think he's awesome though. The extended range Conklin and the Pacman wristband I'm sporting in that 'post pics of yourself performing' thread might give it away though ^_^

I don't know, it wasn't that hard for me to get used to using all my fingers. It just takes time. Hand independence is a totally different matter. I kick myself for not playing piano longer. That said, my hand independence is miles better than when I found Adam's tapping lesson and started learning the snippet of Gavotte in it. It's not a fast process, but I am definitely better than I was then.

:smash:

I assume the lower strings are louder? If so, try cutting your mids. It sounds weird, but it works. It gets you a somewhat sterile tone, but it decimates the bass and evens the strings out a lot.

fatbandit

fatbandit
01-09-2007, 04:59 PM
Well it makes a difference, but not one that evens the sound out enough.

I have that problem for my band - one song has a tapped part in the outro which follows some descending guitar part, but it can't be heard normally :/ I'm not changing my tone (which is actually quite mid heavy) to compensate for little bits like that ^_^

:smash:

I don't have a reverb pedal. Chorus doesn't sound bad with it. The other thing with tapping volume is just strength. If you haven't done much serious tapping then of course your right hand will not be that strong. Just work on that, that should help balance things out.

fatbandit

Plenty of phones have cameras. It's still a small mp3 player. It's hard to call it a computer, anything that size lacks the functionality of a real computer.

Plenty of phones have cameras. It's still a small mp3 player. It's hard to call it a computer, anything that size lacks the functionality of a real computer.

I would say this is a case of form over function and quantity over quality.

I'm not so sure about that. It seems pretty high quality to me. I guess we won't know for sure until they actually release it, but it seems pretty good.

Not that I plan on getting one, it just seems like it might be awesome.

I just personally won't buy a product with an 8G hard drive for music, photos, etc, when Apple already makes products that could easily hold my entire music collection.

you sound exactly like me when i was in highschool. We went on a band trip and had our own hotel rooms. So me, my drummer, and guitarist shared a room. We didn't allow people to enter unless they could knock out the notated rhythm we posted on the door and name what band piece it was from. If they couldn't answer it, we'd open the door, slap them, and "get them later."

often we'd call their roomates and find out when they were going to to the bathroom. We'd card the the door open, bust in, push them off the toilet, grab the paper, and run.

When we got the 'practice lecture' every day (stupid brass section), i'd just unplug my bass, turn the amp off, sit down, take out the paper, cross my legs and sit like a pompous jackass. when my band director asked what i was doiong, i was like "i don't need to hear this, i actually practice at home, and this is a waste of time for me"

Is anyone here particularly sensitive to jokes about child molestation?

If not, watch this. It is the single most horrible thing ever put on Family Guy.

yeah man, sex in a relationship is wayyyyyy better. but dealing with an often emotion trainwreck of a girl (possibly only my experience) and the jealousy and all that **** bother me to no end. i know im dating the wrong girls and its my fault for ****ing the crazy ones, but ill find a good one sooner or later.

yeah. Trust me, there was a trainwreck on my end. Our four year anniversery would have been on the 31st of this month. When it happened way back in september, i slept about 12 hours the whole first week and didn't eat a bite. Full blown depression on my end.

I went through the exact same thing as you, dude.

Dated for 4.5 years. One day, out of the blue, she says that things were 'tired and awkward' and dumped me. 2 weeks later, I found out she'd be sleeping with another guy and started officially 'dating' him 2 days after we broke up.

Some people are just weird.....today at work this girl told me that she thought that I couldn't speak, in my mind I was like WTF? seriously WTF! She's been working there for 3 weeks and this was the first time we talked.

I'm still thinking WTF!

I'm lolling at these songs I recorded with some friends. We sang over cheap keyboard demo tracks and recorded it with an mp3 player. Pretty stupid but it was fun.
Oh, and that song I made is near completion. I like it.

oh man. i had something simular, but it was more along the line of me forgetting all of my anger management training, which i dont have a problem with at all, for about 3 weeks. i broke a lot of ****, listened to a lot of pink floyd, randomly told people to **** off. real bad.
