What songs do you think have really great lyrics and were so well done that you'd do a cover of them?
My favorite song is Round Here by Counting Crows and I love hearing the numerous covers of that song. The good ones at least. I don't know what song I'd personally cover though.

yeh i like that track. Probably anything from 'Deja Entendu' and 'Devil and God..' by Brand New, especially Limousine..Jesse's songwriting has just improved from 'YFW' enormously and they are just amazing to listen to.
Also, anything by Weezer or Coheed and Cambria.

I think the best thing you can do when covering a song is not try and emulate the band who does it, but put on your own twist.

My favorite song to cover based on mainly the lyrics is Mekong by The Refreshments.

The most fun song I've ever been involved in covering is definately Beneath Dying Skies by Through The Eyes Of The Dead.
Smoke On The Water.
You're not in a **** band until you've played smoke on the water in someone's parent's garage. I say played I mean got through the first few bars and then fallen apart.

OH EM GEE discussion thread, in S&L
As far as great lyrics go, every one go out and cover Green Carnation. Seriously man, this band owns. We covered them pretty well.
Metallica are obvious cover favourites, and kudo's to those who cover all of Stairway to heaven.

By all means it was more hxc but I dont know how many people would know it. That said, not many would know Green Carnation either.

anyway, this really shouldn't be its own thread...discussions usually go into the Community thread at the top of the page..

You know what's funny? I listed the most songs, and I doubt anyone will agree with any of the ten.

I agree with Rumors Of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated.

Any Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin song
irony being that those two acts are famous for covering (and in zeppelin's case stealing - whole lotta love) other people's songs.

The only Hendrix song I REALLY like was a cover. Of Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower." One of the few covers that is better than the original. But how about The Immigrant Song by LZ?

That is one of the boringest LZ songs known to man.

Tangled Up In Blue by Bob Dylan is incredibly fun to play and sing, you can just hammer out the simple chord progression as you sing one of the funnest melody's every written.
And I'll also second the Counting Crows for lyrics, there in my top 3 favourite bands, (Dylan, Beatles, Counting Crows). Adam Duritz is an overlooked writer he's got some really great lines...Mrs. Potters Lullabye would be cool to cover "The price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings"

"Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd.
I normally want to kill anyone who dares even think about considering covering a Pink Floyd song, but for some reason I make an exception with "Wish You Were Here".
It's easy to play, and it's easy to put your own personal touch to.
But, as is pretty predictable, Metallica are the band to cover. "Enter Sandman", "Master Of Puppets", "Nothing Else Matters", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", "Battery", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", and "One" being the favourites.
Though, I dare you to find a more fun song to cover than "Rock And Roll" by Led Zeppelin.

Orgasm Addict is a great idea, or Leftover Crack. Great band. Or the Unseen.
