Has anyone here considered going to this year's Bass Lines camp yet?
Discuss Bass Lines.

Yeah... I've got too much other travelling to do, but otherwise, I'd maybe consider it. It'd depend on who's going, too.
Akira

Yeah, definitely depends who is going.
It's just so ridiculously expensive.

I don't really know. I just know it's a three day camp at Berklee, and that there are often some MXicans there.

I've been through the program twice, might go again this year.
Last year I was the only one who went from here...
I can answer any questions about it pretty much.

Was it fun?
If you go again, I smell a roadtrip.

Akira

I am pretty sure applications started around now. It is June 8-10.
PaulSimonon
01-03-2007, 09:24 PM
If it wasn't fun why would I have gone again?
It was muuuch more fun the first year when Jorge, Gav, Justin(Tryxx), Phil, Ed, Matt, and I all went because we already knew each other and had our own group going on from the start.

Yes.
Turn in an application.
You learn a lot, you have a theory class, you have a private instruction time, a group instruction time, and lectures that are mostly on perspective, feel, and such.
You enter an application, then show up if you're accepted.
Not sure this year, usually early June.

For only 3 days eh? well 4 nights 3 days right?
what do you have to put on the application?

Mostly personal info, but there's some stuff on how long you've played and blahblahblah, but I don't think they really look at it.

Basslines was mad fun. We didn't learn crap but it was really, really fun to hang with the MXers. That's where the experience is to be honest, haha.
PaulSimonon
01-03-2007, 10:04 PM
Yeah, I learned more from Josh and Phil in a half hour than anything in my lessons.

Yeah, basically.
Jamming with Phil = learning experience
Hanging with Phil and his friends = LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE

I would go, but seeing as I'm enrolled in Berklee already, it would mostly be a waste of money, save for chilling with MXers.

I was going to be there with you, until work told me they'd fire me if I left. I was still in the new hire period at that time...
I'd consider going this year, but it would be difficult, and I know in the end it most likely wouldn't happen.

basslines sucks balls if you are planning on learning anything from berklee. most of the staff at berklee agree. go if you want to meet up with mxers, dont go if you plan on learning anything. i learned how to double thumb there....from my roommate......quatre.

Yeah. Either that or a better tune that I wrote, but I could always rename that one.
"Ah, that was a cool little tune you wrote, what do you call it?"
"**** Berklee."

Yeah, since I got my scholarship in bass performance. If I double major it would be in either film scoring or jazz composition.

If you want to teach privately, you dont need a music education degree to do that. You'd need it though if you want to teach at any other level, though.

A film scoring major would be so cool.
Like I could ever go to Berklee even if I did decide to major in music.

Leominster...the birthplace of Johnny Appleseed.
I see that sign whenever I drive through Leominster to go snowboarding at Wachussett.
I live in Saugus. It sucks.
I probably won't go to Basslines this year but I'll definitely meet up with you guys in there one day.

I'm going to try to go next summer, but this summer, I'm totally not ready for it financially, nor do I have the time.
Hopefully next summer I can bring my custom bass that I built.

for basslines i played the bass solo to astral traveler by stu hamm, gav played power, quatre double thumbed donna lee, toolbox/matt played teen town....i cant remember what else everyone played.
its not really important, they just make you play and then it doesnt even matter. they throw you into ensembles with people who really suck and people who really rule without much discrimination
