what kind of stuff do the bassist play is post-hardcore/emo/screamo? i really dig the basslines in these songs but there is a serious lack of tabs for this stuff. im talking specifically in the department of bands like saetia, off minor, hot cross, gospel, funeral diner, etc. any help would be greately appreciated.

The best advice i can give you is to listen to those artists and just emulate what you hear. In the long run i think that would be more useful than just getting the music dor there songs.

I like the bass in Saetia though, you've reminded me to listen to it again.

well the bassist from saetia rules, he riffs (some natures catch no plagues) then sometimes he follows the guitar, sometimes he does harmonics (venus and bacchus). etc etc etc. basically, play whatever you want, just in the heavier parts you might want to follow the guitar

bottlerocket
01-03-2007, 08:10 PM
You follow the guitar and just slam your heart out on your bass if it's something like Orchid and Ampere.

If it's like Saetia and Off Minor, play as jazzy as you can while still attacking your bass for an aggressive sound. Off Minor has some REALLY good emo bass.

HOLY CRAP THREE POSTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY HELPFUL ABOUT EMO/SCREAMO AND HARDCORE BASS

OH MY GOD. MY WORK HERE IS DONE. I CAN DIE IN PEACE.

A real good example of different types of "emo" bass:

Ampere - Wormwood, Radiation

This shows how if you just slam on your bass as hard as you can in a weird time sig., it sounds awesome, especially if the guitars do that, too.

Saetia - Postlapsaria

Emo bass with a grooooooove. I love this song.

Off Minor - This is a Hostage Situation

The bassist basically just goes absolutely nuts the entire song.

Off Minor - Instrumental

Similar to Postlapsaria; emo bass with a groove.

If you want those songs, or more good examples of emo bands with awesome bass, IM me on AIM: GavSavesTheDay.

I'll still stick to my guns and say that small brown bike is another fantastic emo band.

songs like:
fami(liar)
see you in hell
my own disaster
this ship will burn (cool bass intro)
the cannons and the tanks
expression eraser
curiosity killed the cat, and i am the killed
i will bury you in me (my screen name, heh)

hit me up on aim if you want any of their stuff. The bass grooves pretty hard sometimes.

If you cant hear what the bass is doing he's most likely doubling the guitar part.

But you can change the EQ on windows media player for more bass.

Yeah, most of the die-hard fanatics recognise Alaska as an okay album, without it being BTBAM, but the self-titled and the Silent Circus both destroy.

Even BTBAM said that they were trying to create music and not be as technical as possible on Alaska. Whatever. Alaska is a good album, but it doesn't sound anything like their first two, which was saddening. :(

i just call what i listen to post-hardcore. that way when i tell people about music i dig, i can get them to be more open, because if i were to say i dig emo, a lot of people would get their minds locked up in the pseudostereotipical image of emo, while if i call it post-hardcore, they usually remain open and willing to take in the music.

I was just going to mention Postlapsaria. Great song. :thumb:
