I just cannot live without making music anymore.
Before my wrist got thrashed, I was always on my room, strumming away on a guitar or just jammin' along to a song on my bass, doing SOMETHING musically inclined.
After my accident, I've been a lot more miserable because making music is really, really, tough. I want to make music I love but I'm having trouble doing that.
Now, though, I'm really into bands like Ratatat and Tycho:
http://www.myspace.com/tycho
http://www.myspace.com/ratatatmusic
For Ratatat, listen to "Wildcat." I love the riff and melody they use at about 2:30 that continues until about...a minute and a half later in the song, haha.
I'm really looking for something like "PBS" by Tycho. What exactly is that? A music program? Anything I can use to make stuff like that?
If anyone knows what kind of music programs they're using, or any kind of music program I can use to make similar music, that would be MUCH appreciated.
I'm down...but not out. :D
Thanks.

I used fruity loops and Audition for awhile and had a blast.
If you want to write stuff get Guitar pro. Don't bother "paying" for it, you can get it with limewire or bit torrent, sometimes i just sit and write stuff with it.

I really like MIDI sequencing with Sonar. I don't know what they use, but you can do a lot it Sonar.

Yeah, the only programs I know are:
Garage Band
Audition
And, of course, fruity loops.
Someone tell me the basics of what exactly this stuff does. What program is best for making experimental electronica stuff like that?
Links to LEGALLY download these programs would also be much appreciated, but make sure you listen to the bands (specifically Tycho) for a sense of what I want to do.

Ratatat are awesome. My friend uses reason for all that stuff i think. Ive not used it but what he makes is good. (I think thats the program i'm thinking of)

If you want to do this legally it just got a whole lot harder.

Not harder.
Just more expensive.
Go check out some of the programs listed and see if there are demos available. Play around with them first... no sense in dropping potential hundreds of dollars if you don't like making music in that fashion.
Edit: Nevermind. :p

If it's illegal downloading, IM me with the link.

I'm on the way out, but if no one has hooked you up by the time I get back later, I'll upload Audition and Fruity Loops for you.
Oh, and Loud Pipes > Wildcat.

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeason.
Find that somewhere, and just start using it. It can be a pain to learn to use if you aren't savvy with computer programmes, though, so find a manual if you can. It is such a fun programme, and you can pretty much do everything with it minus recording.
Now, writing parts with the programme can be rather difficult, so you can just use Guitar Pro to write out your parts, save it as a MIDI, then import it into Reason and find the best voice for it. It works like a charm and is much easier.
I, personally, don't like using Guitar Pro to construct parts, so that wouldn't be my choice, but that was just an example. :p

Is your wrist in such bad shape that you couldn't play piano/keys? I play keys and find that its very easy on your body. There are a lot of decent keyboards out there that can be had for very cheap.

i got it for free with my computer magic. Reason is a great program. Imagine having thousands of instruments, effects, and racks at the the tips of your fingers. I bought a simple m-audio midi keyboard for about 99 dollars and it's a blank slate, taking whatever sound i program in reason and using that.
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=314883
check out cynicism (all reason). i programmed the drums in reason, and every other sound is from the keyboard. It's really an amazing program. I plan to work with it more during winter break now that i have spare time.
wow, i have to change that pic. my hair is shoooort now.

in the way of programs, i used garageband a lot and it works pretty good. ive heard logic is pretty good too. a good app for making drum loops is idrum.

Also, do you like Beneath The Massacre? I don't know of many people that do, but they released a new single, and it is good. Sounds exactly like Beneath The Massacre, if you are familiar with their Evidence of Iniquity EP, but yeah. :p They are technical death metal, though, I suppose.

As an album, it sounds rushed and completely separate.
But whatever, noise is too subjective to analyze quality anyway.
