Hi,
I've finally got a good job, a hot rod deluxe, a tubescreamer, and most importantly, a band.
so im ready to record.
but, im kind of stuck between going the multitrack route as opposed the the laptop and some hardware route.
so what would you all say is a good setup to record demo quality songs, with all instruments (guitar, bass, drums, synth) and vocals. but i need to be able to mix all of the equalization too, so i dont think a computer program works well.
so if someone could just give me some things to look into, that would be hella cool.

if your laptop has firewire i'd suggest this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/PreSonus-FIREPOD-Recording-Bundle?sku=241481
it's everything you'll need minus the computer
if you need something a little more budget friendly check this out:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/PreSonus-Firebox-Studio-Package?sku=247106
or if you already have mic's, cables, stands etc... check this out:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Tascam-FW1804-Rack-FireWire-Computer-Interface?sku=241251
it's like a digi 002 but it uses cubase and it's about 75% cheaper

i'd say if you've been looking at the mbox mini then you should just go for it... OR go with an mbox2 used. That's what i'm using at the moment for basic stuff and it's REALLY nice. if you do decide to go digidesign i know where to get you a lot of rtas plugins... so i'll post my email later for like the next 10 minutes if you want

change of plans.
my laptops usb ports are broken, and since its a semi outdated alienware, im not even going to bother fixing it.
so multitrack recorders are the only option right now.
does anyone have any recommendations for those?

Get a digital one with a hard drive.
In terms of features, the Fostex MR8HD looks best to me, but I don't really use standalone multitrack boxes, so your mileage may vary. The Tascam DP-01FX also looks pretty good.
