Last year we came up with songs we resolved to learn in 2006, so might as well make this a Bass Forum tradition. What are you working towards for 2007?
Clarification: What songs in specific are you working towards for 2007?

I already tend to think of theory in terms of a fretboard (kinda bad habit, I guess), so I figure it can only help.

1. Read music every day (but not always new music).
2. Study out of time to learn the music, play in time once you have learned it.
3. Give yourself permission to make mistakes.
4. Practice every day.
5. Separate academia from art. They do not relate.
6. Find a teacher who teaches musical content, not rock, slap, tap, two-handed excersizes, etc.
7. Listen to records and imitate what you hear.
8. Jam and gig. But gig more because the musical requirements are higher.
9. Learn academic jazz even if you don't want to play it.
10. Don't practice with a metronome.

I'm definitely going to get my walking bass and sight reading chops up. I find that I walk in a very scalar fashion, and it can get boring after a while, and my sight reading could always use some work.
As for songs, I'm gonna learn Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, and Jaco's Teen Town. I always start Teen Town and just stop for some reason. I'm gonna learn it the whole way through!

Um... learn to play with a pick better.
Thats about it.
- Learn to read sheet music (for real this time)
- Put more time into my playing
- Put more effort into my playing
- Do exercises and things that will make me a better bassist even though they might not be enjoyable from time to time.
In short, take bass playing a lot more seriously, but still enjoy it.

So my goal for this year is to take treatment for it serious, as well as learn to play with a pick, simply to keep playing.

Completely unrealistic, but learn to play "Arthur McBride" by Andy Irvine and Paul Brady. My friends step dad has been playing Irish folk music for 15+ years and can't play it...

spend even more time playing, but more specifically in a band environment. no one around here seems interested in playing music seriously. i also want to start doing more with theory, which at the moment is pretty basic. I never studied theory or made any point of reading into it and i think i'm at a point now where i have to do something about it or stay stuck at the same level of skill for a few more years...

I want to figure out what I'm trying to do, in life and music. Oh yeah, and find a piano at school so I can play it instead of going to class. I really want to get good at piano.
And my fretless intonation is coming along, I think I'll get it down pretty good by the end of the year.
And find a drummer to jam with, maybe record some stuff.

Line up more gigs, get signed, tour (by bus,by van, by packing **** out of a camry, whatever)
meaning we need- more band photos, a bio, finish our EP (almost done), etc. We basically need to play a lot more shows and have a press pack.
I see it happening, we really treat the band like a second job. Practice 3+ nights a week for about 5 hours a night. On nights we're not doing the full band thing, my guitarist and key player come over and we work on new stuff, and tighten some loose ends. So by the end of 07, i hope to be traveling and playing.
