I have a problem with recording.

i wanted to be able to record to my computer in Kristal or audacity. so i got a sm57. Then, the shop i was at told me i needed a pre-amp to send it to the computer and so i bought a cheap behringer mixer. So now i am running my sm57 into my mixer and using the cd/tape outs to plug into the computer.

But neither Audacity or Kristal will pick up the sound. So where do you think the problem could be? I've turned to mixer up as loud as it gets and nothing.
It may just be some stupid thing Im missing.

Any and all help would be great!:chug:

Are you using the mixer to route to the tape outputs?

You can't just turn up volumes and have it work, you need to hit the buttons/switches to tell the mixer to output to the tape outputs.

On my mixer, this can be done by sending the input signals to the main output bus (hit the "main" button on each channel) and then using the "source" control for the tape output to set it to "Main." I imagine your mixer is similar.

I don't really understand what you said there, sorry. but i dont have "main" individual buttons for each channel. I just have a 'cd tape to mix". and cd/tape to ctrl. Ive tried them both but no luck.

I have a Behringer xenyx 1202 fx.

Having read the manual online, it looks like the tape/CD output connections are wired in parallel with the main mix.

Are you getting an audible main mix? Can you get output of the connections using devices that aren't your computer (for instance, a pair of headphones with some adapters)?

Knowing Behringer, it's possible that your mixer needs to be fixed/replaced.

Well I am getting out a audible mix when i hook it up to my P.O.S. panasonic tape recorder. Wich leads me to think it may be my soundcard. but yea I might just take it back and get a yamaha mixer instead.

If you're getting sound from another device using the same connections, the mixer is fine.

Are you able to record the output of a CD player or other device with line out on your computer? It's possible that you're just not hitting a volume knob or the computer's digital input record level is too low.

make sure you set your line in to record from instead of your mic input in windows
