Infinity points for whoever can give me information about this bass I bought about 6 months ago. Here's what I do know:

- it's at least as old as the copyright laws on headstocks. The headstock is copied right off Fender, as you can plainly see in the pictures. This puts it... early 90's? Late 80's? at the absolute latest.

- If you look very closely at the headstock, you can see a pale brand name that appears to have been sanded or scratched off. I'm pretty sure it says LAREDO.

- Google will not help you. I tried.

- It sounds pretty decent and would play like a dream if the action was lower. Unfortunately, there is no hole for a truss rod either at the headstock or under the pickguard. I assume the neck was set in the factory and then bolted on.

- the original owner is now dead. The shop I got it from has no idea how much it's really worth since his little brother sold it to them for 30 bucks. I bought it fixed up and with new strings for 110$ CDN (around 85$ US).

Sorry for the huge pic size.

Probably a bass from one of myriad of budget bass makers that don't get anywhere and disappear before gaining any size.

Laredo is a city where the hookers flow like the inevitable, diseased discharge you'll experience a few months after spending a night with one. of course, the prostitutes are far cheaper then the Penicillin you'll require; so it all evens out.

Try taking the neck off and see if there is a truss rod there. Some old basses had this feature.

omg humor!

but yea, i think it's probably just a cheap copy that never made a name (so to speak) for itself. it's strange how a lot of copies have pickups that give out excellent tone, but will pretty much always have terrible playability.
