I just got this American P bass off the bay for 700$ shipped.. I guess its an ok deal? Anyway I never owned an american P so I was just wondering if there is any diffrence in sound between which way you string it. Through the body or bridge?

Thanks. I do miss my Stingray but I will be getting another soon and it will be HOTT. Anyways I plan on adding a shell pickgaurd to this bass. I really wish it had a maple fret board but ahh what are ya gonna do? I needed a bass asap.
I'd say that stringing through the bridge could cause more vibration with the strings than stringing them through the body?
I think. Not sure.
Sweet bass btw. Though I'd change the pickguard to a tort. :thumb:

Supposedly stringing through the body gives more sustain.

yea and I heard that stringing through the bridge gave it more growl.. Which doesn't make much sense.

meh, i'd try it both ways, but i never can tell much difference. thru-body give better sustain, but not a whole lot more. thru-bridge might give a wee bit more punch, due to the decreased sustain and quicker decay.
Some say it does give it more sustain, some say it's just a placebo effect.

on my peavey grind if I string through it accentuates lows a bit more and If I don't its accentautes mids more and gives it a little more punch. might be my imagination like eadg says.

The string goes through the ferrules in the back of the bass and out the top of the bridge.
Nice bass.
