i am sorry though man. if there are guys out there who can play with only one hand, you can make it work with one less finger.:thumb:

naut

reminds me of this guy i used to go to school with. he severed half of his ring finger when it got caught in a bike chain. picked it up, had it sewn back on - good as new.

JoeDaddio
01-01-2007, 03:21 PM
I worked with a guy who had his finger taken off by a huge stage box. They sewed it back on and it worked fine. But if they had to amputate it it must have been pretty effed up.

Hope you have a speedy recovery, LS.

I don't really know how the word got out about this, but yes it is true. I got my little finger on my right hand caught in a belt in the engine of a friends car on saturday. It mangled the finger really badly and they had to amputate it at the first knuckle. The doctors said that it should heal fully and it shouldn't hamper my bass or guitar playing at all, seeing as I fret with my left hand. It is all bandaged up and stuff right now. I will try to get a picture of it soon.

(I knew it was a joke. My response was as well)

Gav cut a tendon(i think it was a tendon) in his wrist.

Yeah. If I remember correctly, it was something like:
was cutting someting in my dorm with a utility knife. it slipped and cur DEEP into my wrist. the bone was exposed. one of my tendons and an artery popped out and i was bleeding profusely. it was squirting out and stuff. my friend james across the hall called public safety (my school's 911) and they called an ambulance. so, i was escorted to the ambulance waiting in front of my dorm by 5 cops and a completely blood soaked rag over my wrist. everyone outside thought i attempted suicide and the cops did, too. finally, after waiting for 3 hours and my hand shaking, numb, and blue (yes, blue, like navy blue) from bloodloss (i was bleeding all over the floor; easily lost half a pint of blood), they stitched me up with 7 stitches. the doctor said i was the luckiest patient shes ever seen; fraction of an inch to the right and i would've hit my artery so i would've died in 10 minutes. fraction of an inch to the left and i would;ve severed my tendon so i wouldnt be able to move my wrist ever again (which means no bass or guitar...ever). now, everyone on campus thinks im the suicidal emo kid, i cant use my wrist for 2 weeks, im in a ****load of pain, and the school therapist/shrink is calling me to make an appointment because he thinks it was suicide and a cry for help...so yeah...

I severed my muscle, ligament, and tendon in my left wrist with a utility knife and can't play bass or guitar anymore without a deep, sharp, searing pain, so I can't play anymore, hence the username change (thanks to the comedy and wit Wintermute).

I can do day-to-day things, like carry lunch trays and open doors, but I can't lift heavy things with my left hand and I can't play bass. I also can't use it to open doorknobs (turning my wrist kills), so it's a real pain.

So yes, but it's healed as much as it can by itself. I may need surgery but even that may not enable me to play bass.

I'm dealing with it at my own pace. I know what limitations my wrist has right now and I'm working on reducing those limitations and working towards playing again. Right now, though, it doesn't look good, is all I'm saying.

Insurance companies would just see, "A boy cut his own wrist with a knife" and say, "REJECTED!"

So I'm just doing my own thing to try to build strength up but nothing's really helping.

That does blow. I would at least go talk to a doctor or something once to see what exercises would help. I know with my physical therapy, a lot of it could be done with cheap, elastic bands.

If you're in school, go talk to a med student or a professor in a related school.

Edit: Insurance didn't pay for much of my physical therapy either.

Yeah, obviously.

I'd program the computer to do it and press the button with only one finger.

Synth bass is like eating Lunchables meat in place of prime rib.

I realize it doesn't sound exactly amazing but it's the closest you're going to get as of right now.

That depends on the complexity of the song.

It's not necessarily easy just because it's on a synth.

Could you play Dr. Gradus Ad Parnasum on a synth with one finger?

Ah, I was trying to poke fun at the discussion you and Jorge had about synth playing in that other thread.

Nah it wasn't his little finger, he sliced his penor off in a chaisaw accident.
Then tried to weld it back on.
Failing that he used no more nails, to no avail.
So he just stuck a banana where the hole is and got on with it.

Indeed, especially when to hear about someone missing a finger the first people to talk about it are not the person who supposedly lost their finger.

Also, who the hell bandages a finger with paper and sellotape?

The Earth is round, but it is also fat.

Well, it isn't a perfect sphere since we are spinning and the equator region stretches out, so the Earth isn't flat, it's fat.
