the neck will be maple, the two little strips will be purple heart and the wings will be mahogany

how much would a high output lungdren bridge pup cost me?

also, what all will i need, a band saw and a router and a drill and what else?

a neck.

are you going to try to make it yourself? i think what i'd do is get one of those neck through necks from carvin, and make your own body, and route it and what not.

looks like you might have some balance issues. id try and lengthen that top horn a bit, especially if thats where the strap button is going.

band saw, router and drill are good things to start with. you might need some other tools for finishing (sander, hand plane, drawknife, etc).

yer, sander, and lots of sand paper, and some arm power to get those curves nice and smooth

yeah im goin with the carvin neck thru peice

and i was kind of wondering about the balancing too, doesnt seem like it should be /too/ big of a problem

besides, when im sitting with it it will most likely be classical style anyhow

to get it nice and ballanced, you'd want to get the strap button as close to the 12th fret as possible.

probably won't be any worse than an SG tho

where are you going to put hte strap button? on the horn? or the heel?

horn for sure, unless for some strange reason the heel NEEDs to be used

WQouldnt that guitar be terribly unblanced?

it has the potential to be, but it could also come out pretty well. The Buzzard, the general shape of which isnt terribly different, is actually pretty well balanced.

Make it a 7 string  That and the carvin 7 string head stocks look better.

My suggestion for balance is make it as is, and then if it is unbalanced put a weight in the control cavity. It will make the guitar weigh more of course, but you wouldn't have to sacrifice your design.

You let me down man, I thought you wanted to make a custom 7 string.

I need to build myself one.

no man, i tried a 7 string schecter through a dual rectofier with very roughly what petrucci uses for tone and it sounded horrible and felt horrible

i mean the chug was awesome and crap and itd be fun for tuning down and playin meshuggah stuff, but at regular tunin it was gay

I've had my kramer in drop a before, very cool .

I've actualyl come up with a body shape. Basically modifying the bc rich mocking bird but with strat shaped horns instead of the pointy and the SG horn.
