I've been playing bass for about 5 to 6 years now. And my band just got booked for a weekly gig at Hard Rock (Guam) and Casa Nami, both very hot spots.

I need one that could handle the amount of giging thats ahead of me. I have a Warwick Corvette5 right now, and I love it to death, but I am sick and tired of waxing that beautiful sumbitch. So yeah, I'd get a streamer if I didn't have to wax it so often.

I'm thinking along the lines of a Jazz-type bass. Anything from an MIA, '62 reissue, 70s reissue, to a Lakland Joe Osborn or Darryl Jones signature.

And I have a question, why is it that the price for the Osborn and Jones models on the Lakland website are so much higher than the prices on musiciansfriend.com? Check it out: the prices for the Osborn and Jones models on the Lakland website are $4000 and $4,600, while the list price for the Jones model on musiciansfriend.com is $1,599? Whats up with that? What does that mean?

So yeah, help me decide. :thumb:

Ok, after searching and searching I've made up my mind. I'm getting the Darryl Jones sig. Can't make up my mind on which color though.

so yeah, that's the next question: Black sparkle or White Pearl?

I've toyed with, jammed with, and rocked out with rays and honestly they don't work well for me. And I've made up my mind. Darryl Jones!

I would definitely go for either the Lakland JO or DJ. The reason they are probably listed on the Lakland website at $4000+ is because those are most likely the US Series. You can get the Skyline Series, which are still very good, for a bit over a grand brand new.

Well, the black looks more...standardy.

But I would totally go for the white, just to be different!

black looks more aggressive, but the white is different and looks dmooth and mellow to me

Depends upon the style you are playing I think...the black would be great for a heavy band...or retro rock but the white would be nice for anything.

You've made up your mind without even having anything in your hand and trying it out. That's a pretty rediculous decision right there. Just because it looks nice to you and other people may have recommended it doesn't mean it will feel good to you.

My suggestion is to actually go out and PLAY some basses so you can make a better decision.

Get the Fralins in it and not the Aeros, at least to my ears the Fralins really improve the bass.

^I've actually tried this bass out a while back. Even those that I've listed. All of 'em. I've played with all of them in the past. Except for the JO. The thing I noticed about the DJ is that the tone was versatile, the neck felt great, the stability of the bass was very reliable, and the low end on the E string was there. Some basses, even some J's lack that low end on their E string.

Come on dude. I would never buy a bass without ever trying it at least once. Now help me pick a color. :thumb:

I would have gone a Sadowsky Metro over the Lackland.

Yea, but a Sadowsky Metro is like a 1000$ more than the Lakland Skyline JO or DJ. :p

Out of the two options, I'd go with the White Pearl. With that rosewood fingerboard it really adds a nice contrast, although that pickgaurd has to go! Tort, black, or white pearl pickgaurd for sure! :smash:
