Ok, so maybe this doesn't really warrant a thread of it's own, but I'm so excited.
It's been 7 years and I have never gotten a new cymbal (due to other priorities).
Well, finally, I decided to go to the store and check out all the cymbals. Well, all be damned, the cymbal that I was eyeing since the beginning of last semester was still there and it was hidden behind a bunch of new cymbals. I put it on a stand, tried it out, and was sold.
I paid $316.81 USD and it was such a rush.
I took it home and took some pics on my webcam and then got some audio.
So this is my new main ride and it sounds so great for jazz.

Damn, I was thinking about getting a dry ride earlier...but I opted for the Zildjian A cymbal pack.
But damn that sounds amazing. Good buy, sounds great for jazz (as you said)

That ride looks and sounds amazing..

well, without a doubt, this is the single greatest ride I have ever played on. The undertones are so warm, but the attack is crisp and dry.
I was doing some play alongs earlier and it adds a dimension that you can't even imagine. I'll hook you guys up with a listen later.

There will be more, someday.
I'm just glad nobody bought this... the guys in the store were like "Woah, good buy"
They forgot that it was there and everyone in the store who watched me buy it were like "congratulations to the guy who bought the K Dry Ride".
It was seriously kind of ridiculous.

damn... you must be wanting a ton of cymbals.
I think I'll never buy another 20" ride for a really long time.
my next ride I'll buy will be some sort of smaller 18" ride with more of a wet sound so that in a jazz scenario I'll have two distinct ride sounds.
Is your kit posted in the "Show us your set" thread? I wanna check out this 21" Dry Heavy

My next ride'll be an 18" K Custom Flat Ride, no hesitation. You should check it out Moogoo.

to Aaron: I'm might just do that... I really want a flat ride, with custom rivet holes that I'll have installed.
To Ludvista: That's a nice looking cymbal. For some reason I thought you were talking about a Zildjian cymbal.
/is retarded
I actually looked at that today. I'm a Paiste user, for the majority, and was thinking of staying in the brand and just upgrading the quality.
Things that kept me from buying it were that the one in the store was too overtoney (is not a word) and rang, and of course, seeing that K still laying there was like a dream come true.
My choice was based on the fact that I have never had a dry ride and I desperately needed one.
I now know the love that is running around and finding the perfect cymbal for your setup.
[edit]Also, I'm just totally in love with the finish. I love stuff that looks rustic, and I was sold on that earthy looking cymbal.

haha, I figured you thought i was talking about A Zildjian Cymbal....and yes, earthy looking cymbals are awesome...Left Side Ride...mmm...
Aaron

Yeah rivets would suit the 18" KCFT Ride, but I wouldn't put more than 2 in there otherwise it'll overpower the ride [it's a pretty quiet ride]. The Zildjian A Armand Ride [which has preset rivets stock] would be worth looking at for you too.

I have the 13" K/Zs and love them [Z for projection cause I play lots of brushes]. I'd suggest them for funky stuff. and just to rub it in...

Are they bright, though? I'm looking for something that is light and uber-crisp.
I can't emphasize the word "CRISP". I was super stick definition, and the sizzles to be even and it needs to have this perfect little "chick" sound.
I haven't looked at any hi-hats in person yet, cause hi-hats are damned expensive compared to other cymbals.
But getting people's opinions is a good place to start.
Aaron

I'd probably go 13" Ks [the standards]; they're what you're describing.

*Oy, I just listened to my audio from this morning* Oh my god...That's got to be some of the worst playing I've ever done.
I don't know what I was thinking when i was playing this morning.
Aaron: That's a good thing, cause they are going to end up being the roof over your head :)

oy, you can't sugar coat that..It was crap in my personal opinion. My ideas weren't coming out at all, it just sounded like shoes in a drier. I'll get some better stuff up tomorrow.
Partially to blame was the lack of warming up... I just got home from Guitar Center and threw it on there and started wacking away.

How's the Zoom moog? Record me some brushwork with it! How much was it by the way?

I love it... it's fantastic. Though, since I'm not back in school, I barely have any use for it since my drumset mics are right here.
$299.00 USD
I'll hook you up with brush audio in the morrow.
to DrumGuy... Much appreciated, despite how I feel about it.

tis a lost art. You don't need brushes for progressive rock or RnB or Punk. It's all too loud.
There is too little appreciation for jazz :(

I haven't posted audio but I always use brushes, I love 'em/

I can't wait to get a digital camera in the next month or two. I'm going to do some brush-basics classes for MX.
moogoogaipan
12-28-2006, 09:27 PM
What we need is a brushes discussion thread, where everybody post audio or video of their brush work and we discuss how we can help improve each other's technique. Cause I've only been playing brushes for about a year now... I'm by no means the greatest... I just kind of feel what I'm supposed to be playing.
There's no method.
Aaron
12-28-2006, 09:29 PM
Mmm. I agree. Should it go in advanced?
drummguy731
12-28-2006, 09:29 PM
 Thanks aaron for the edit
EDIT: It should go here because it's media...
moogoogaipan
12-28-2006, 09:30 PM
I say Advanced, cause it's Advanced Media.
Plus, there's less chance of it getting lost many pages away because of the people who don't care to learn what brushes are or do.

I have very little experience with K's. -But i did break in an 18" K custom session ride yesterday....i hated it. It sounded dead and gongy. Couldn't crash it. Had a VERY weak bell, couldn't get many sounds out of it.
In fact, the best ride i played yesterday was an 18" Bosphorous crash:). Haha.
