Hey guys, I've been grounded from the computer (still am) so i haven't been on for a while.
I went to a show last night on Boxing Day and saw a few local and non-local bands play. All did an amazing job but this band (For The Mathematics) stood out especially. They are a band from Ottawa who i have heard great things about but didn't expect nearly as much as i got. They have a very Mars Volta like sound and are great writers. The drummer has a BLAZING right foot and some decent chops. He plays a lot like Jon Theodore which i suppose helps enforce the TMV sound. I've never seen anyone groove so hard on a 4 piece. They've got a music video coming out on Much Loud in February. Heres a link. Enjoy.

PS. I had never heard these guys before, but upon seeing them, i bought both of the CD's they had available and i LOVE them.
Another band that played was a band my cousin is in. It was their last show seeing as how the guitarist is moving to BC so they played their hearts out. My cousin is the drummer/singer and IMO grooved to hell last night no matter which way you slice it.

There was another metal band who did an absolutely amazing job but they don't have audio on their myspace as of yet. I found that they had a lot in common with Iron Maiden (a lot of triplet based basslines and a galloping feel in their heavy songs) and Dragonforce (simply because of some blazing fast shred these guys pulled off.) The bassist and guitarists were amazing. The drummer was solid but not impressive, though I'm sure he could pack a punch. Here it is anyway:

One more band that i saw was Magneta Lane. They are three women who I had never seen before. They did a damn good job. I can't find their myspace.
Enjoy the new music guys.
