So I'm buying more books to add to my practice "modules" as josiah likes to say, Im currently just doing Stick Control, rudiments, and free play. I know Im buying New Breed, but I cant decide between The Art of Bop Drumming and The Rudimental Cookbook. I know that The Rudimental Cookbook is basically just a book teaching rudiments, so if i bought it would i want to take rudiments off my practice scedule? In that case I would just buy all 3.

The cookbook teaches them in a Solo setting so it's more musical than just playing the same rudiment over and over. I got new breed and bop but have practiced mostly out of the bop. New breed is good but you will miss the point of it if you don't practice it singing in the way they explain or if you rush through it. I rushed through the first five "grooves" in New Breed about 2 years ago without doing the singing and got bored. However, I just started practicing out of New Breed again but this time doing the "singing". Now that I can see the benefit I don't get bored and my drumming has improved.

Get all three. Advice from someone who has no self control when it comes to buying drum books.

Stick Control and Rudiments could be combined into one module called hand practice. Sometimes I use stick control as a warm up to the rudiments or the other way around. I change it up quite a bit to keep from getting bored. I do push myself though at whatever it is I decide to practice that day. I think you can do this since rudiments and stick control are basically combinations of doubles and singles. Other things I won't skip around on because of the consistency needed to see improvement.
