Hey guys,

I was just wondering what your neighbours say about your drumming, and how loud do you play? Do your neighbours piss you off? cuz mine sure do! They say it's okay if i play, as long as i don't play after 7. That's what i've been doing for like a year now, but now they complain to the neighbourhood manager dude. Wtf? I hate them.

Actually, my neighbours always comment on how nice my playing is :). If your neighbours are complaining, check for any bylaws in your city about noise levels. If there is nothing about too much noise in a bylaw, they can't do anything about it

Mine for a long distance know that i drum, and that im in a band. I'll just say that. I play sometimes untill 11 at night, they haven't ever said a negative thing about it. My whole community is pretty close and they are all pretty supportive of what i do.

Mine have never mentioned it.

The people from across the creek though (kind of across the road.. like, no houses on the other side of the road. There's a creek, then there's more houses) once came round and said they really enjoyed my playing. I was like sweeeeet. :thumb:

My neighbors are nice. The one likes to listen to my band practise.

My neighbours are an elderly old lady and this hippy couple and their son. The hippies don't care; the elderly old lady likes the fact that we play and is supportive because atleast we're doing something contsructive.

My neighbors are my relatives. They also live like 100 feet away, and if they ever complain, we'll submit video of them lurking in our back hedges watching through our sliding glass door, rutting through our garbage, and illegally burning garbage.

So it's good. Try blackmailing them.

My closest neighbor is like maybe 300 - 500m away from my house, so noise is not a problem. I've sat down and played my kit at 3 AM when my parents weren't home. I live out in the country.

In my first band (in which I played guitar), we used to practice in my garage all the time, with the door open, and so the neighbors (as far as 1.5 km away or so) would hear us. Some of them would just go out and sit on their decks and listen to us, and we got quite a few compliments about our playing.

My neighbors don't bother. I only play in the hours of 12pm-6pm to respect their sleep and when they get back home. No complaints at all.

Plus they want lessons for their kids:smoke:

This.

One time I was over at my friend Ben's house, and he was drumming, and he stopped for a minute... This woman was walking past his house, so when she got right in front of the house, I told him to give 'er. So he started just playing randomly, really loud and the woman jumped and looked around wondering what was going on. It was fun.

My neighbors dig it, but I don't play very loud unless I'm with the band. THey also like it because its 50's and 60's rock, so its music that they used to listen to.

one of my neighbors doesn't care 'cuz both their kids play guitar.

my other neighbors are like from some pseudo-christianity cult and their kids go to bed at like 8pm (even though one's in high school) and they call cop complaints on like cars going by, so we don't care.

one of my neighbours are these 2 really nice old people, they dont mind my playing, and always say hi to me :)

those are the neigbours who are attatched to my house

the other side, with an alleyway between us are a nightmare. im mates with their son, and he has an electric kit. they complain when he doesnt use headphones with that. imagine what theyre like with me...

had the police over twice, in the end i pwnd them by inviting environmental health over myself...

I live in a semi out in the country, but it's an old cottage, so the walls are 3 ft thick and made of granite... nothing gets through that, the neighbours have never mentioned it.

Having said that, if I play with the window open, you can hear me playing from the other side of the valley.

Always make friends with your neighbours. They watch out for you, and bring over the occasional plate of food :thumb:

I only play between 12-6pm. But now with daylight savings, I play from 12-7pm.

In the summer they don't like me playing in like, late afternoon, but apart from that, they're pretty cool. There are 2 drummers, a DJ, and a performance bike rider in my street, so a lot of noise.

No one cares in the winter because all my other neighbors are OAP's and they die in the winter due to high gas and oil prices, so yeah....

I think they don't mind because it's constructive and it's not like i'm going round causing gang violence or anything. Never had any complaints.

And what Pauly said is true. If one of neighbors who's been living there longer than i play drums complained, i listen to them, because you have to live with neighbors for most of your life.

Pfft I live on a packed council estate. Thing is most of them are drug dealers or have some previous convictions or have broken the law in some way. There not gonna go tell the police, thats just dumb. So i can play all I want.

^Yeah but they'll probably cut your head off and bury you in woodland somewhere :p

My neighbours don't mind, most of them make plenty of noise anyway, lawn mowing, power tools, screaming brat kids from idiot parents etc.

my neighbors are seperated by a row of trees that kill the noise.

Personally, my parents dislike my drumming more then my neighbors so I have to keep it to a pretty short amount of time.

My neighbours like me playing drums! There is a drummer who lives like 10m away from me but he doesnt have his accoustic kit setup in the house because his mum doesnt want the noise to loud, but he said hes gonna get a roland electric kit which will be cool. But meh its all good! :)

Mine don't really hear it at all... You can faintly hear it just outside my house at 12:00 when there's no other sounds outside, so I don't have to worry about neighbors, I can hammer on them till 3 in the mornin'!

I live on a farm and the only people who live close enough to hear when I practice are my Grandma and my cousins. My whole family is really supportive of my music and I never get any complaints about practicing, as long as I don't play while anyone is trying to sleep.

With piano on the other hand, my family started to get really sick of hearing the same songs over and over again when I was preparing for my exam.

one of my neighbours is pretty cool, they couldn't care less about the volume of, or when i drum.

my other neighbours on the other hand, must have something shuved up they're @*$ sideways because they keep complaining to me that i should only play during the middle of the afternoon. Then they dictate to me that i can't play when they have company over or at supper, or when they're outside.

so what do i do? hahaha i open the window when they're choppin wood or whatever and let them have it :chug:

I'll find out in the new year once I've got my kit.
We had no complaints about band practices last year (using a drum machine through an amp) which was sunday evenings 8-10. My adjoining neighbour is my brother (who is also my landlord) and he was fine as long as we finished by 10:30. No-one else mentioned anything.
I plan on using silencing pads during the evenings and without on the weekend during the day.

as long as i stop by 9pm my neighbors are cool.

once i played a couple minutes past then and one called and complained. He said his kids need to go to sleep. later that week my mom saw the guys wife at the store and she said the kids werent even in bed, the guy just wanted to sleep.

one of my neighbor commented that ive gotten much better (ive only been playing for about a year and a half)

You guys who have to stop at 7 check with your local police and read up on your decibel limits/times...

We had the police called on us at band practice many times at my old house, but talked to the cops and I looked the laws up, and we could play until 10PM which was when we stopped anyways.

At my current house though, we haven't had a single problem and you can't hear a thing outside. Thing is we're using better/louder equipment now too!

Some neighbours are just ghey. But if there are no noise restrictions thats no reason to just do what you want.

I only practice during the day, when I am home and everyone else is at work. I finish up around three in the afternoon, because thats when mothers start getting home with their kids from school. They probably want to watch t.v and chill without me banging away in their leisure time.

I had one complaint ages ago, when I was a wee lad. I had band practice at my house all sunday, every sunday. They had every reason to complain so I stopped doing that...who wants to listen to that crap on their day off.

My neighbor's have never complained about me playing, not even my kid hating next door neighbor, not even when I was playing in the garage this past summer, practicing for a talent show with some other guys, and the noise loud enough to hear 2 streets away. He didn't say nothin! My other neighbor phoned my mum and told her we sounded really good and to turn up the volume so she and her husband could sit on their deck and enjoy the music!

No and I hit hard as hell.

The room is under our garage. We had our basement extended under there. So half the walls are cement I believe. Keeps the noise level outside the house very low.

I live on an estate where all the houses are quite close together. The neighbours on one side of me were absolute assholes to me. They would shout abuse at me when I walked down the street, threatened to kill my dog, set my fence on fire etc. I think they were heroine addicts and if I reported them, they'd more than likely get in their friends to "do me over." The complaints have stopped now, not sure why, I think distant members of my family had a word with them :naughty: I was scared to play my kit or even leave the house because of them for a while :upset:

The neighbours on the other side of me once came round and complained when I was playing with brushes at 9:05pm!!!!! :amaze:
The guy said: "I'm a postman and I have to get up at 5am so keep the noise down."
My dad told him: "bugger off, the whole world doesn't revolve around you because you're a postman"......the next day my dad found his tyres had been slashed
