View Full Version : The Doors Make Worst Artist List?

I had the same thought. This has to be a joke! I am not a huge Doors fans but even I recognize the significant contributions they have in the music world, then and now. What brilliant mind(s) made this list? The interns might have taken over the asylum.

That's the problem sometimes with freedom of speech. Some people just don't know half the CRAP (@!$%) that comes out of their mouth and what goes on in their little mind. HEEEELOOOOO?!?!?! Anyone home?
The list goes on and on. It also includes Bob Geldof, the same brilliant Bob Geldof who orchestrated the very first Live Aid event that moved and helped so many people in the world. Another is Celine Deion. Although I don't listen or particularly like her brand of music, I do recognize that her awesome talent. Not too many people in the ENTIRE WORLD have a voice like her.
Am I the crazy one?

Yes, you are the crazy one. The Doors blow.

That magazine is always making those lists and it's probably just the Editors least favorite bands or something. They said ICP was the worst the worst band of all time and that's just outrageous.
The Doors were awesome.

I don't think it'd be completely wrong to throw ICP on the list of the worst bands of all-time. Those guys are a joke.

Well, The Doors are extremely boring, so this should hardly be a surprise.

This dude knows.
Blind Melon and the Spin Doctors are on that list as well.
Does anyone really need more proof of the incorrectness of that list?

The Doors can be cool.

Pfft, magazines are useless. I'd rather be the worst musician in the world than be a music critic for that or any other publication.

Primus are on the list, too. So is Man-O-War, who are so far away from sucking it's not even funny.
Electronic Wolf
12-14-2006, 09:13 AM
I think most of these bands actually deserve to be on that list.
What did the Spin Doctors do besides "Two Princes"? Blind Melon wasn't that good either, dude. It's truth.

The Doors are ok.
What did the Spin Doctors do besides "Two Princes"?
How many of the critics who made the list could have written that song?
Yeah.

Because you need to be the best goddamn composer to be able to critique another person's/band's work. I like the way you think, Zmev. It tells me you're smart in the head.

its too subjective to really matter
I like The Doors but i can see how Jim Morrisons stoned rants can be criticised.

I really don't like the Doors. Extremely boring music in my opinion.
But Blind Melon being on that list, I disagree with.

Yeah, The Doors blow.
And as far as top 50 worst artists lists go, that one is fairly accurate. I can see the case for all of those bands being on there (the ones I've heard of anyway).

This list has too many good bands on it.
This list is #1 on the worst lists ever list.

I agree with that list. Though I was surprised to see Creed not in the top 10.

A-lot of Doors hate in here; shame on you guys.
That magazine lost credibility with me a long time ago, this is just a great example why. How can one the most unique and creative bands of the 60's be put on the same list as Insane Clown Possie is beyond me. Even if you don't like The Doors, you can't deny that they have a huge influence over Rock.
Robert Crumb: Only on one album (their self titled) did they not have a bassist. (their last 5 albums all had a session bassists)

The same could be argued for ICP. They were unique and creative. They were on the same list because they were both bad bands. It's really quite simple.

Unlike ICP, the Doors actually made intelligent music, the musicianship is suburb on all sides, and not to mention they had extremely good taste. I mean who the hell else puts old Blues songs ("Back Door Man"), a German opera ("Alabama Song"), and psychedelic Indian raga ("The End") on one album? And I haven't even mentioned their gigantic influence over the past 40 something years they've had over Rock. (I'd venture to say some of the bands you listen to have a little taste of Doors in them) Just putting them in the same sentence as Insane Clown Posse is an insult to good music everywhere. Even if you don't like them, you should at the very least respect what they have accomplished.

I like how you expect us to take you seriously when you said their musicianship is "suburb."
The Doors blew loads. The dude's suicide was cool because it stopped them from making even more crappy music. But it sucks how people were all like, oh my god, he was so good. Let us play their music 24 hours a day until he comes back from the dead.
Bartender

Is that all you can say? They're both "bad bands"? How are the Doors bad? (back your opinion) I don't mean to be rude but if you can't back your opinion, just shut up.
How do you want him to back his opinion? Obviously he just doesn't like the Doors. Their music doesn't appeal to him, etc. There isn't much more to say.
All you're saying is that you like them, ultimately. You think the musicianship is superb, you think Back Door Man, Alabama Song and The End are all good songs, you think they made intelligent music, and so on. I think that their musicianship is lacking (competent, but it's never really made me think they were great), that their songs aren't particularly intelligent, and that on most days I'd rather listen to ICP than them.
And none of this has any effect on the list anyway. It's not all one person's opinion. I've got an issue of Q lying around here somewhere with several dozen Best/Worst/Top-style lists, and on different pages the same bands are praised and then ridiculed.

1. The Doors don't deserve to be on a worst artist list.
2. Lists suck, period, forever.
That's all I have to contribute to this thread.
Blender sucks a gigantic nut.
Nietzsche is 'ill-advised' and Burroughs is worthy of naming your band after? That's a laugh.

Thanks. I was kinda joking, although I do think they could have used a full-time bassist. But that probably has little to do with anything. In any case, they are very influential, and I don't think anyone would really suggest otherwise. But as often is the mistake when regarding influential bands, influence doesn't mean universal appeal or appreciation. Surprising as it might sound, some people just don't like the Doors. They don't need a reason.
As for magazines and lists like this, it would be boring if they listed 50 100% true-and-solid-historically-approved heinous bands. These things are meant to provoke ire/entertainment/interest/discussion amongst readership. What better way to do that than roast the sacred cows on a spit?
Also, Blender never had any credibility.

~While in college, many young men still choose to immerse themselves in such ill-advised subjects as Nietzsche, black magic and Native American folklore. Most get over it; Jim Morrison, unfortunately, inflicted his terminally adolescent views on the wider world. The consequences included overblown screeds of nonsense such as “The End” and “The Crystal Ship,” plus, effectively, the invention of goth. Then he got fat and died.~
Wow, that little review just made the writer sound like a complete tool. "Oh yeah, I got over Nietzsche and started my real life, thank god hyuck hyuck."

There's nothing more stupid than going through a person's profile and digging up some pop/pop-punk albums that he likes that you don't and using them to discredit his opinion.
OMG you rated Angels & Airwaves a 4.

Primus and Oingo Boingo is on that list = they fail.
The Doors would have been a fairly good band if they weren't cursed by one of the worst frontmen ever. Top 50 is a little harsh, but they're one of my 100 worst bands ever for sure. And Primus are awful no matter what way you cut it. Most of Bob Geldof's actual music sucked, no matter what he did in real life. And while Celine Dion's voice is worth defending, the vast majority of the songs that she's sung are diabolical and would be no matter who sung them.
Michael Bolton and Yngwie Malmsteem both aren't anywhere near high enough. But overall that's a decent list.
Edit: I've never even heard of Iongo Boingo but if Danny Elfman was a member I'm prepared to hate them anyway.
NuclearRabbit

How is Primus awful? Not trying to defend Primus or anything, just want to read your opinion.
Oh, and their "50 Best CD's of 2006" list is just horrible. I won't give it away but My Chemical Romance is in the top 10 range. You really have to check it out.
The only thing on Blender's top 10 I really object to is that Mary J hasn't done anything good in about 7 years. And Art Brut was 2005.
Primus just have a horrible sound. Their attempts at making prog-rock funny aren't progressive (or rock) enough to be interesting, and aren't witty enough to be funny. They always seem to be aiming for either laughs or gasps, but they can't let go of either side of themselvesn long enough to do anything right. Their songs are also pretty mcuh tuneless, the vocalist pretty much sucks, and I just don't like Les Claypool's way of playing bass. It's too showy for me, and his tone isn't very good.
This is an opinion only based on about 8 songs though. I just pulled the most popular ones and the ones with the best names off Limewire when somebody recommended them, and I didn't really find anything to enjoy about any of them. I'd love to hear something that proves me wrong on all that, but I'm not going to devote any time to searching myself.
NuclearRabbit
01-10-2007, 02:32 PM
Yeah allright. I never found them trying to be funny/witty, just comic..comideous? The song Frizzle Fry is quite allright, but I agree. Les' voice can annoying after a little while.
