Alot of ambience is sad and/or sleepy. Really if you want sad and sleepy you are limiting your options a bit. If you want sleepy to sleep but with the absence of sad you could expand your selection. Not sure exactly what you want.

Try Sigur Ros - Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa

Definitely one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. And possibly one of the greatest piano lines ever.

Try anything by Lou Harrison when he's doing gamelan stuff. Trust me. That stuff is beautiful.
