He made an announcement on Monday Night Football just yesterday. I don't follow politics very closely, but thus guy keeps giving me hope.

I'm hoping he does run in 08. There aren't many other democrats I'm a fan of, but it pains me to think voting 3rd party is a waste.

I feel like if it's a black president is gonna make it he's stood the best chance up to this point
While I hate that it has to be like that because I like his ideas it's a fact of life that it'll be an issue in the south and southwest

12-12-2006, 11:20 PM
as far as i can tell, the only reason he has been hyped is because he's young and black.

i dont care about either aspect you just mentioned

yeah but i haven't even heard any of his stances, does he have a website or anything?
AmericanWeiner
12-12-2006, 11:37 PM
charismatic yes but he's also doesn't seem to think with his fists.
Whereas bush was like "i gots boms for terrsts" obamas like "wtf nubs stop fighting or we'll let bush back in office"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama
here is a very general outlook on him
honestly I like him most because he doesn't blatanly oppose the republican party like most of the democrats seem to be doing here lately. He's more of a moralistic and individualist leader than a traditionalistic leader like bush
griftadan
12-12-2006, 11:40 PM
i liked that he supported the transparency act
wasn't really impressed beyond that

I really like Obama and his political views on the world.
I doubt he could win the election though. With Ohio being such a huge swing state, I think racism would sway enough swing voters away from him. Also the fact that his last name is Obama.."omg trroriztz!11"..people are stupid.
I don't like the fact he supports the censorship of videogames though. But there's much more important issues.

I don't know if Barrack Obama can win a general election...I have my doubts. But it's just so much more interesting with him in the mix than out of it.

Edwards/Obama ticket, while not something I would be satisfied with, would be far more suitable than Hillary/anyone else.

I wasn't aware of his middle name. I just meant his name in general not sounding...well, like a generic presidential canidate. But, yes, that further backs up what I'm saying about people and stereotypes.
I doub I think racism would sway enough swing voters away from him. Also the fact that his last name is Obama.."omg trroriztz!11"..people are stupid.
.
You're forgetting that racists vote republican anyway. I don't think that it would hurt him at all.
CardCheat
12-13-2006, 07:58 PM
Indeed, I just now really thought about that. I still think it could hurt him a bit, but I was thinking if he was to run for president, surely a large amount of the black community would vote for him that normally wouldn't vote in elections.

I donnu, I think he's kinda spoken both ways on that one. Although, from what I gather, he doesn't support the marriage amendment, nor does he support courts declaring that marriage extends to homosexual couples. Not sure on the last one, though.
Of course, if Goldwater were alive today, he'd be supporting states rights on the issue--if states want to have gay marriage, he would say, let 'em. Which is why conservatives who reference Goldwater as their foundation of belief are, mostly, off base.

Yeah from what I understand, the only reason he's even considered running for president is because people want him to. He definitely said in 04 that he had no intention to run in 08, but he's commented that he's had a lot of people pushing for it, so he's had to put thought at it.

I'd rather not have him run in 08 tbh, he'd be pinned for a lot of mistakes that GWB made, especially those policies that don't take affect until after Bush is gone.

Sammmmmmeee here.
As for Barack Obama.
I like him, but he seems like more of a person I'd like to have dinner with. That is of coarse, because I don't really know where he stands pollitcally but I kind of have a funny feeling he's the only modest politician(note to self: Never use these two words in the same phrase again), I mean of coarse until he sells out to his party. I hope he dosn't.
If he keeps trying at it, he can win president, but not in 08. He needs a little soakthewholegameofpoliticsintime before he gets THAT succesful.

perhaps. Hillary is a skilled and intelligent politician. the only thing is they are both underdogs, IMO. sure, they sound great on paper (except for the fact Hill can open up a whole can of worms dragging Bill's legacy with her) but are we really ready for a woman or black President? Democrats, at that? sure we like to think we are, but one good moderate, likable, non 'Dubya Republican can rain on their parade quick. especially Obama. who better have much security around him if he gets the nom. Hillary, as well. every right wing looney toon with a lost cause is bound to come out of the woodwork hunting for a new one and it takes just a few of them. i wish both luck, but something in the water just isn't right.
i'm not sure if this country is ready. i wish them both well. :)

If the Democrats want to win in 2008, they should not nominate Hillary. She is hated in the Red States
I like Obama, but he lacks the experience. Not in the sense that he won't be prepared, just that everyone wil be saying, "We can't vote for him he lacks experience"
I have no idea what ticket would be best for the Democrats, but the ideal for the Republicans would be McCain-Santorum

I thought that about Barack too, but people have pointed out that right now he is hot, and the less experience he has, the less time people have to get dirt on him. I agree though, I don't know that he could win.

Being anti death-penalty won't get you a win in Ohio. Depending on who the GOP candidate is, it could even compromise PA.
Yes, in the end, I don't think Obama can win a general election against a good Republican opponent.
I think Gore could win it, though. If he decides to run. Bayh could have.
I would vote for him. But then again I live in Canada and concerning American elections, I just vote for the one with the coolest name.

What's he going to do in the meantime? If he stays in the Senate for another decade then he'll be stuck with a voting record that means any semi-competent Republican governor will be able to twist it out of all proportion. He's probably the politician in America who people are most excited about right now, and since Feingold and Warner have dropped out already, he's the guy who I'd like to see get the nomination (unless Gore decides to run).
It's Gore ran I would give up on the Democrat party completely. You shouldn't run if you already lost once, even if you should have won.
