That's actually a pretty sweet list! Much more accurate I think in terms of importance then some of the others.

Thanks Little Man :thumb:

EDIT: I actually think that Pink Moon is really over-rated, but it does make sense somewhere at the top. I think Abbey Road should've taken the prize.

and w00t, first post!

Number 1 is surprising but an extremely good choice nonetheless.

Thats why Exile on Main Street finished above Sticky Fingers, by the way.

Sgt. Peppers that low is a steal.

But like I said before, good list. I'm sure I'll have more bitching to do on further inspection.

Iai
12-11-2006, 03:56 PM
Yeah, the best list we've managed yet.

Zappa
12-11-2006, 03:58 PM
Just skimming it, it looks pretty effword good.

We're Only In It For the Money belongs in the top 20, though.

I know, put it in place of Forever Changes.

Iai
12-11-2006, 04:06 PM
I'd put it in place of Freak Out! to be honest.

Matt?
12-11-2006, 04:09 PM
i'd put it in place of hot rats

_Mote_
12-11-2006, 04:12 PM
Yea, I didn't see how Hot Rats placed that well, but it's still a fine record.

Jacaranda
12-11-2006, 04:16 PM
meh only three stones albums good list overall but i don't like most of the placements. not alot of pink floyd either oh well.

I just don't like Freak Out! much. But Hot Rats and We're Only In It... are both amongst my favourites.

Loaded below VU S/T? Poppycock. Also, Can is boring.

_Mote_
12-11-2006, 04:33 PM
VU st > Loaded, in at least relevance and influence. I could think of a bunch of better records from this time period that are better then the ones found on this list, but the list will always turn towards relevance and influence. You could say that Iaasic Hayes - Hot Butter Soul is better then Abbey Road, but you'd never say it was more important.

Iai
12-11-2006, 04:34 PM
That's kind of a white viewpoint.

_Mote_
12-11-2006, 04:38 PM
It's always going to be which album is more popular.

Another example, you may say that the Mudsucker's album is one of the best albums of the 2000's, but American Idiot, although a much worse record, will still come on top of the list.

Loaded is one of the weaker things Lou Reed ever participated on.

I'm happy that Ziggy Stardust snuck into the top 10.

I think that this is a great list, it's much better than most lists from this era considering the fact that it's not filled with Sabbath and Zeppelin.

Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul ~[ 218 points]~

I'm surprised that Fun House ranked higher than Raw Power, considering that no one talks about it besides Zappa or NPC.

Well, yeah, that's how these lists always turn out. I was just hoping Loaded would be higher.

I too have to spread rep around before giving it to Little Man.

Great list.

Pink Moon definitely deserves the top spot.

Wonderfully brilliant album, both in terms of acutal songwriting and emotion.

1. Linda Perhacs - Parallelogram ~[ 1612 points]~I'm happy now.

Little Man being Erased
12-11-2006, 08:53 PM
Yeah, pretty much my thoughts right there. Pink Moon definitely deserves a spot in the top 10, maybe top 5, just not quite no. 1.

pixiesfanyo
12-11-2006, 08:54 PM
when you first look, Pink Moon seems like a good choice for "absolute best piece of music released in this excellent nine-year time period", but then you realize that no, no it isn't. It's just an acoustic folk album. Great, but not #1 great.

good list otherwise though.

Exactly.

It's the best album because number one, anyone can apperciate it.

It's not held back by bad production, because it's a voice and an instrument.

It's not held back by any of the "genres" back then, because it's simply just good music.

The beauty of Pink Moon is it's simplistic nature, the fact that it is just an acoustic folk album.

I'd much rather have "just an acoustic folk album" then half of the other overblown **** that came out of this period.

I prefer Five Leaves Left to be honest.

You also think the Afghan Whigs made more than one good album.

(unnecessary burn)

I honestly think the Twilight Singers are better. Blackberry Bell was a really good album. Their other stuff, not so much.

I was really surprised that Harvest didn't make the top 100.

Only 3 people had it in their list.

Actually, it only missed out by 1 point. :(

Awesome top 10. I'm really happy that Pink Moon is #1 as well. What makes Pink Moon so great is that Nick Drake made what so many artists try very hard to do without really trying. It's simple, short, and plain, and yet it's still one of the best albums ever. Pink Moon getting the number one spot might seem like a smack in the face to a lot of people, but I truly think it deserves #1 more than any album.

Led Zeppelin I is better than Led Zeppelin II and needs to be higher

Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold As Love are better than Electric Ladyland

55-64 could be done but I won't be able to run the thing due to lack of time and I don't have more than about 10 albums from that decade so I wouldn't submit a list either.

Pretty good list overall. I would have like to see Revolver ahead of Abbey Road. I'm glad Tago Mago by Can made it too 20. Sometimes that album is very unappreciated.
