as it's coming up to that jolly time of year again i've been looking into a new bass. i've being eye-ing up the conklin gt-7 for some time but it's gonna be a ball ache to get one to the U.K. but while searching the internet i came across 2 basses on ebay. both 7 string (one fretted the other fretless) and was wodering what you people thought of them.

should i consider one or both (as ultimatley that's what i want fretted and fretless) or steer clear and figure out a way of getting the conklin?

Fretted 7:

fretless 7:

i'm asking this because, as i say, i would like a 7 fretted and fretless and the price of the two + postage etc would still be cheaper than the conklin...

thanks.

It's always a risk with those no-namers. They could be awesome for the priceor they could be garbage.

Personally, I think my GT-7 was worth every penny.

Yeah, I went for a no-namer from ebay and she's awesome but yeah, you could get a bad-un.

I'd go for the Conklin just to be safe, at least you know you are getting something quality.

yeah, i really really really like the conklin and have been drooling over it for a year or so now. i'm just a bit indecisive about it now...

i know people who live in america so could buy the conklin and have it shipped for free to theirs, my girlfriends mum is often over there for work so she could bring it back here meaning no stupidly large shipping fees. the problem with this is that the conklin is non a generic shape/size so i'd have to try and also get a flight case for it... especially with all the retarded flight regulations now, and putting it in a soft case wouldn't be an option...

AG (mod at the guitar forum) has a Mazeti 7 string guitar, he says it's awesome and he can't believe the price he paid for it. Ask him about Mazeti's quality..

I might be the only one who hasn't been impressed with the Conklin GT series, but I really didn't like the tone or feel THAT much.

There is one seller on eBay that has a range of 7's (and others) basses and has alot of inlay work done on it and going for relatively cheap if i remember right. Few people have got them from TalkBass and say theyre worth the money.

The tone isn't the most amazing thing every, but the feel is great. The neck feels better than many 6ers.

123. I was just about to bring that up.

I don't know if you have a Talkbass account, but if you do, message the user "Lokire" about his experiences with those cheapo 7's.

From what I can tell, the Ebay ones you linked to are the exact same thing that he has without the gaudy inlays.

apart from the headsocks looking as ugly as sin the look pretty damn hot - although like the other guys said buying into unheard of brands can either be a waste of money or an amazing discovery

although like you said buying both of them would be cheaper than 1 Conklin, plus you could upgrade the hardware if it need be

the thing that worries me is the basses having neck problems. there is no mention of what standard of truss rod is being used, whether it be single or more ideally double. the electronics can be upgraded if needs be but a neckthrough bass with a warped neck is is a big problem...

are there any other things that i should take into consideration? i mean, with regards to tone, it's an active/passive bass so i can easily make it sound how i want it to. but what else should i think about?

From what I've read on Harmony Central about two of their guitars, they are decent instruments. One guy said fretting was a bit rough on a few frets, but that was easily fixed. His only other problem was the trem, but I doubt you'll encounter a problem there.

If the guy has a decent return policy, I'd say go for it. At most, you're out shipping.

yeah, thanks. i think i'll get them then. there's a really good music shop near by that i'll take them too, see if they aren't warped and are in good nick. i'll maybe review them, briefly, just to let you all know how they are and if they're worth buying.

^That'd be cool. Does me no good as I'm not in the UK, but for the UK members here, it'd help.
