since when do taking back sunday and dashboard confessional count as pop-punk albums?
am I wrong in thinking they are not?
and if anyone agrees with me, then why are people posting about them in the pop-punk forum, or nominating them for "pop-punk" album of the year?

They're sound is much too Poppy to be counted as anything else.
If you listen to them, you'll notice the band's sounds are more derived from Pop-Punk and not Alt/Indie or Hardcore/Emo.

since we dont have a forum for every single deviation from a genre and since the bands have the most posting fans in this sub-forum.

I see what you mean as far as sound orgin.
but I think that lyrics, especially in punk, play an important part as well. would you consider it wrong to place them in a pop-rock category?
do you think sound should be granted a considerably larger amount of weight when placing a band into a certain genre? I know that mainly that is how it is decided where a band falls but because punk's message is so definite it seems lyrics play a more important role and I just don't hear tbs of dc taking that role.

dashboard is acoustic mostly so there sure as hell not punk. tbs arent agressive or fast which is necessary for punk and as you say they have none of the punk message in their music.

I mean, it's not like I have a personal goal to remove tbs and dc from the pop-punk thread and demolish any hope of their names ever returning to the thread. It's just I was curious as to what other people thought about it.

TBS' sound is a very poppy version of pop punk bands. they have the simplicity of punk and the catchiness of pop.

I'm not saying they should be anything. I was just asking what other people thought. I'm not introducing any new ideas, critisizing placement and demanding we solve this very crucial problem of putting them where they belong.

I don't know. I don't think I know enough about music and genre-placing to be qualified to tell you anything. that's why I was asking.

you would get flamed for talking about either band in any other forum except this one. hence they belong here where people like them.
