"visions studio"
this was recorded in my basement on protools, and mixed over the course of several days. The piano levels were fixed, the guitar has been fixed and sounds 10 times better, as well as the bass. we looked up every single drum mixing technique online, and made the set sound even better. this is a studio quality recording.
let me know what you think of my bass playing, the band, whatever. it's all good. Thanks for your advice from my last thread, becuase i ran it by my guitarist (me and him did all of the mixing) and we used it to make the track a lot better.

Gave the song a full listen.
I'm liking your tone. The guitar seems a little quiet to me :\
Great song though.

thanks for the compliments, besides the guitar (which i hear loud and clear) is there any more criticism on the mix? We fixed the piano a lot, and we also did a lot to the vocals. Recording dry could very well be a singers worst nightmare, but we did it and i think it sounds pretty good.

I think it's because I pay alot attention to bass in any song I hear. Naturally every instrument is going to be quiet for me :p
Overall it sounds ace. :thumb:

thanks thanks, the reason i'm asking so much is because i have a friend who does college radio. it has a lot of listners and he offered to play it on air. Also, my guitarist went to a party tonight and is showing it to a few record people he knows. I just want it to be top knotch. The two of us spent a good 8 hours mixing it overall.

You can tell.
What program did you use to record?

protools. My whole basement is set up to record. We laid down the drums with a crapload of really nice mics we rented, and guitar and bass went straight into the board through headphones as a scratch track. Then the guitar was laid down. We used a direct line, a condensor mic in the middle of the room, and a shure sm 57 close to one of the cones. Then we did the bass directly in. then the piano, then the vocals through a pop screen into a condensor mic. Then we mixed the drums. I looked up every single recording technique for drums. We knew exactly what frequencies to cut and boost in order for the snare mic to not pick up hi hat sounds, and for the hi hat not to pick up snare sounds. Then we mixed the bass drum so it'd be punchy and clear and the snare so it'd have a lot of pop to it. We eq'd the bass with heavy low mids, and some more treble than i would have liked. When the bass is by itself it is kind of meh, but when it's in the full mix it sounds sick. My guitarist did all of his own mixing becuase he's really particular about his tone. We doubled the vocal track and then added very very very mild reverb to the whole tune. This actually gives it a nice clear sound.
definitely not a bad mix. although i wouldn't call it top notch. too cluttered/too muddy/too linear.

yeah, it does sound a bit muddy on the myspace, but through all of the stereos we tested it with, it sounds pretty good. Either way, it's not that bad for a basement recording.
