Does anyone know roughly how much a beginner one would set me back in the uk?
Any interesting tips or bits of advice?
pretty vague question there, but if you don't want a plywood piece of crap you will probably have to go with $1200+(u.s. dollars, dont know what that equals in pounds). as far as tips and such, pick yourself up some books and start reading. if you are into jazz i would suggest The Evolving Bassist by Rufus Reid

TS: You'd almost be better looking into a full-size electric upright.
A standard double bass will start off at well over 1k.

I despise electric uprights.
Whatever i go for has to be VERY hardwearing as it'll be put through the test of psychobilly.
T'aint gonna be no jazz bass. Money shouldnt be a problem as, if i decide on something, i get paid more or less 1k a month anyhow.
yeah, taint isn't really jazzy. more funky i'd say.

You say that as if jazz bassists are accepting of electric uprights. I guarentee they are equally despised. Real jazz bassists would snap the strings off those wannabes on the first note.

I think that needs more explanation; a history of, perhaps?
