Just listened to The Loon for the second time, and it's really really good. Anyone a fan? I remember reading about them here sometime not too long ago because they're in Australia at the moment, going to see them do an instore on Monday arvo.

Recommended for fans of older Modest Mouse and Wolf Parade.

They're indietastic.

I saw a video of theirs on MTV once. I don't remember whether I liked it or not. It didn't leave a lasting impression apparently.

I like them. It was weird because I saw the video for that song, and didn't like it all that much, but when I heard it on the album, I thought it was great. I guess I just didn't like the video all that much. It looked all rustic and it was just a bunch of video-tape being thrown everywhere.

The only stuff I've really heard from them is from that bit they did with that Aziz guy. They seem alright, but he definitely stole the show.

Most modern indie bands are nowadays. Not even bad like how Pavement or the The Replacements used to be bad, where they just got up on stage drunk and it was a big wild party. The singers just suck and come off as complete morons in a lot of bands today. Because of all the trickery that goes on in studios, you can't tell if a band is actually good at performing their instruments, or if the singer can actually sing.
They're not indie, but when I saw Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers singing on TV, I was like :amaze: because I think he has a really powerful voice on the records, but live, he sounds like he's choking on something.

Electronic Wolf

Kiedis is a dickhead.

_Mote_
12-09-2006, 12:21 PM
I don't care if he's a dickhead. I'm just saying that they can modulate any crappy band to sound good these days. I mean, they still write great songs, but preformence is still a biggy for me.

There's nothing lo-fi about bands people consider lo-fi these days.

It's just bad recording quality.

Agreed. I really like that song a lot, though.

It means that the recording quality isn't very good. Lo-fi is usually recorded on a 4-8 Track. Some Lo-fi bands Slanted and Enchanted-era Pavement and early Guided By Voices.

Trumans Water. Nothing is more lo-fi than them.

Spare Snare are a sick Lo-Fi band too. I love their record Live at Home. Not sure how well known they are in the indie circles though, I got their record in a grab bag :p

Little Man being Erased

Just because they're playing with them, doesn't mean they (or I) like them. And just think of all the indie kids that'll be there.

Electronic Wolf

I think I'd rather play for six kids than 300 fake indie dudes.

Why of course they were sh*t? I saw them do an instore yesterday and they sounds bloody terrific. Though they did only play with an acoustic, a keyboard, a snare and a hi-hat, and the bassist played a bass drum. Still, they sounded damn fine.

I just said "of course they were ****" because I don't like them. It had nothing to do with their actual abilities.

They're from my city and they're alright. They're real catchy but kind of generic. I've seen them live a couple times over the course of their careers, and they're a bit underwhelming (especially for all the hype they're getting now).

If they weren't from Minnesota I would probably skip them, personally.

i like 4 songs on the album, just drums (definitely the best song), omaha, buckle, and jakov's suite. the rest are awful, and one of the songs has a riff that's been used i don't know how many times. i think it was track 5.

And it's obvious that people in Minnesota don't read Pitchfork.

And it's obvious you don't live in Minnesota. I've never read an article from Pitchfork in my life and i know them... It couldn't be that they play shows all over, or that they have done TV appearances, or that their albums is all over Minnesota's Cheapos.

Also, the music scene is in Minnesota (from what I hear) is pretty different from most other places. Many bands get popular around here by word of mouth, Cheapo, or even local TV shows for that matter. I sure there are some Minnesotans here that can confirm this.
