Amp has only one input. Where do I plug my Disto effect into?

I have a cheap Ibanez practice amp and im thinking of getting a distorition effect for my P Bass. The thing is, my amp only has one input. Is there anyway to use the effect withought buying a new amp?

Doesn't the effect go between your bass and amp? So connect bass to effect then effect to amp?

Not too sure myself.

Youre set up should go Bass >Cable>Pedel>Cable>Amp.

Just get a new cable.
