I'm going to nix this thread because we're going to do a full Pop Punk awards thread at the end of the year I think, but preliminary discussion would be good methinks.
PS TEN = PP album of the year imo, just for grandiosity of the idea and project.

I dont think they really pulled it off though, there were too many average songs. A City by the Light Divided or The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me i think.

LAS was this year? Man, long year lol. Yeah, LAS and TDAGARIM were both very solid, but don't get anywhere near as many point for effort. BN was actually disappointing from an innovation standpoint to me, even if it was good.
oh yeah yellowcard was suprisingly not bad

True but the new album makes it seem like naming Thrice's style will become harder than ever. And I would go so far as to say some of the ideas and instrumentation Thrice plans on using were used by TEN.

I dunno, the range of styles they seem to be going for seems like many listeners will be able to find at least one "bridge" disc that draws them into the band. The Earth disc seems like it will appeal to Indie fans and might appeal to people normally turned off by Thrice's intensity, for instance.

A+A maybe.

The end of For Miles is intense. The new Thrice triple album looks insane, I can't wait to hear it. I think Vheissu is their best album, but I love IC and IOS. TAITA is decent as well, but compared to their other material it's a little weak.

I'll go with Set Your Goals - Mutiny.
I'll justify it by saying it's the only pp album from this year that's consistently been on my playlist.
I say we give the award to Ruiner, just in case people have forgotten about it.
Also, Before Today's new album strikes me a very original and cleverly written record. Whiny singing, but I don't mind it. I don't even know if it's coming out this year, though. Or what it's name is.

I can't think of any artist from any genre that has released a "spectacular" album in 2006. The Sack-O-Woes EP was pretty great and of course the new Poison Idea. Those were'nt what I'd call amazing though.
Saves The Day - Sound The Alarm
Easily my favourite of the year. It combines the energy and rhythm from older STD albums with a step-forward in slower melodies they didn't get right on In Reverie.
HM: Brand New - TDAGARIM, Senses Fail - Still Searching, Set Your Goals - Mutiny!, Forgive Durden - Wonderland, Placebo - Meds.

It's going reasonably good, got some new friends at the beginning of this year, they are awesome in every way, keeping me happy. Did my grade 7 piano exam last week, went well I think, will be getting results in a week or so, I'm a bit impatient when it comes to that. Also, have a few AS exams in january I really should revise for, yeah, they're hard, as it's the first step. New album ever so nearly finished, with my solo pop-prog music project can't wait. ;)
How are things with you?
I will be coming back here more often I think.

Oh cool stuff. Are you going to be putting your album up for mx?
Things are doing ok, finals week = :( but soon I'll be home for break and after break my band is going to be hitting the studio to put together an EP or even an LP if we can get enough good material and takes.
Firecracker
12-09-2006, 02:09 PM
I may just finish it then send some stuff off for some record places and people, see what they think, cos it's reasonable quality, pretty decent, considering it was done in my room. If I had a band it would be easier, cos then we could afford to go to a recording studio and record properly. That would be awesome. LP would be fab, have a full length under your belt, you'll do good.
Good luck with exams and that, I'm sure you'd do well.

Yeah, it's amazing how well you can make an album at home nowadays. The equipment is good and cheap. I'm excited to be going into the studio again though, it's lots of fun and I'd love to have an LP out that people could buy and stuff :D
You mean people could steal amirite?
Don't worry, I'd still buy one
Firecracker
12-09-2006, 02:48 PM
I would TOTALLY buy one. =)
Then completely whore you wherever I went to anyone I knew.
=) Just to show. =)
Yeah must be awesome to go into the studio.
Ahhh.
The only trouble with my recording, is it's not actually recording, it's sibelius, which is awesome, but it's all midi, oh well, sounds good. =)
Some people think it sounds cack though, think the actual music is decent, but the midi is poor. I like it kind of, the pop songs sound good, the prog, not so much. But the violins and flutes are good, because I couldn't record them anyway, because I can't play them, man I would love to...

Pfft, we'd give away a lot of it for free no doubt. I mean myspace, pv, etc..
Laura: Aw :)
Yeah MIDI is hard to deal with because sometimes it's great, othertimes it really does sound cheesy and fake :\ It's easier than buying and learning 100000 instruments though.
Firecracker
12-09-2006, 02:58 PM
:)
I do agree with the instrument thing.
The piano is REALLY awesome though, and I have learnt half of it now. So I could play it, if I got a new keyboard, which I will be getting soon. Well hopefully.
If I did a glam rock song, the midi would be funny. :p

For my music A level composition, I'm doing an 80s synthesised pop song, on the same software. It's amazing, so poppy and synthy and cheesy. Ahhh makes me smile. :)

Bouncing Souls - The Gold Record was pretty good, as was Captain Everything - Buena Vista Bingo Club. But nothing amazing came out this year in pop-punk in my opinion.
