Seriously, if it has distorted guitars and is fast, I'll listen to it.

I mostly listen to melodic black/blackened death (Dissection is one of my favourite bands ever, also bands like Naglfar, Old Man's Child, Immortal) but I'll listen to real black metal as well.

Sorry but how are Mayhem less 'kvlt' than Darkthrone? Okay, so I only listen to Mayhem's old stuff, particularly "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" (of course), and it's not like that's more accessible than Darkthrone.

Their stuff after Eurynomus died is more mainstreamed and accessible. I mean if you want really accessible just listen to Dimmu, but that's not the point.

I love Symphonic and Melodic stuff, and other BM to a lesser degree.

If you dig the Melodic stuff try out Naglfar, Graveworm, and of course Dimmu and Emperor.

They are definitely one of the best black metal bands. Beyond the Apocalypse is f'ucking amazing.

Black metal isn't really my thing. I like a handful of bands. Naglfar, Dissection... Toxic Holocaust (thrash/black metal... I guess). My friend is really into all of the underground grim, necro, frostbitten ****, though.
