hey guys. new to building basses and although i have the all the woodworking and that aspect down, i am still unsure about pickups and electronics. i ordered some emg p5 pickups off ebay(http://www.emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?section=Bass&categoryid=23&catalogid=108)

so the question- i still need a bridge pickup right? sorry for being ignorant but better to ask questions now than correct mistakes later.

You can go with just that pickup if you want. Though it wouldn't hurt to add a mm style or jazz in the bridge position.

so if i get a EMG-LJ, will i need a 9volt hooked up to both?

Most EMG pickups are active and require a 9v battery. It's not a big deal to put one in though.

yeah i know that they are active and need a 9v but do both pickups(the p5's and the lg) both need 9v's. so basically 2 9 volt batteries or do you just wire it up so they both run off of the one?

thanks for the help

They only need one, but you can use two if you want. You can wire them so that it lasts twice as long or wire it so it gives you twice as much power. Any of the three options will work fine.

Cool, do you plan on putting a top on it? What kind of neck wood and fretboard are you going with?

no top, i like the way the wood looks, hopefully that wont change when i get it up close. as for the neck, i'm going with one off of an ibanez i dont play anymore. its in great shape and ive started to sand it and clean it up. for my first one i didnt want to have to make a neck and deal with the truss rod(we'll save the for the second:) ) Also i dont want to spend too much so it was a cheaper way out to go with this neck.

Glad to hear you are already thinking about a second... and third... it will never stop. You will be hooked. Best of luck!
