Morrissey.....Hinder fan?

Yeah...I'm getting sick of knee-jerk reactions of everything starting to pertain to race. I don't know a ton about Morrissey, but from that article, the 'evidence' is dubious at best.

"Even while denouncing racial prejudice in stirring fashion, he was wont to admit that he disliked Pakistanis. 'I don't hate Pakistanis, but I dislike them immensely' was his flippantly blunt adolescent observation (1977)." (Johnny Rogan, The Severed Alliance)

What Morrissey said

From Wikipedia: "Bengali, Bengali / Oh, shelve your Western plans / And understand / That life is hard enough when you belong here - Bengali In Platforms by Morrissey

In a 1988 interview with Shaun Phillips for Sounds Magazine, Morrissey justified the lyrics by saying: "If you went to live in Yugoslavia tomorrow, you would find you didn't really belong there."

"When I see reports on the television about football hooliganism in Sweden or Denmark or somewhere, I'm actually amused. Is that a horrible thing to say?"
That amuses me too.

I couldn't bear to read the article, because it's far too boring, but I do think he rather gets off on ambiguous statements of that sort. If people want to believe Morrissey is a racist, he's probably the type of person who'll let them rather than fall over himself to prove them wrong.

Dumb thread.

I know this has been discussed somewhere else and someone gave an explanation for whatever songs, and I think it was said that he was trying to reclaim the flag from the far-right. I don't remember where it said all of this, though.

everybody is racisit, it is just when a white middle aged male celbertiy says it, OMG it is the end of the world, if like Paris Hilton called like Lionie Richie a ****** no-one would care.

Electronic Wolf
12-04-2006, 06:32 PM
Hey, guy, you're an idiot. If Paris Hilton used a racial slur against someone, even more people would be on her.

Jacaranda

Moz a 'racist' because of the sentiments 'Burn down the disco... Hang the DJ" expressed therein, seeing the song as an all-out attack on dance music and therefore black people.
i'm not sure i get this but as far as I know alot of dance music in the 80s was made by white kids so....

wacky brits.

Morrissey proclaiming that "reggae is vile" in his usual flamboyant way in interviews didn't help. Hating reggae doesn't make you racist; it just means you're unwilling to experiment and decidedly close-minded.
John lennon is unwilling to experiment and decidedly close-minded also as he hated jazz.

"I detest Stevie Wonder." (Morrissey, September 1986)

"I think Diana Ross is awful." (Morrissey, September 1986)
thats just racist.

Now, I'm not British, and I'll admit I only gave the article a cursory look-through, so could someone explain what holding the British flag has to do with being racist? I'm unfamiliar with the area's politics, so if one of you guys could tell me that, I'd appreciate it.

I dont fully understand it either, its stupid.

I mean during the football world cups, and the euro cups theres always debates going on about whether we should be allowed to fly the flag on our cars, or from our homes, because it might stir up racial tensions or something.

Its a load of bollocks in my opinion.

All non-Arsenal flags i.e. national flags are banned from the Emirates Stadium now, in case anyone should show support for a country someone else doesn't like

He's an artist, not a politician. His job isn't to please everyone.

He probably doesn't even listen to the Smiths, like people who wear those Ramones t-shirts from Hot Topic don't listen to the Ramones.

Robert Crumb

I've never seen Zooey Deschanel in a good movie. I'm told they exist. But I'd still pay to see her star in bad movies.

I actually don't think I've seen any of her movies besides Elf which just screams indie cred

but watch this starting like 10 minutes in:
