I'm preparing for an upcoming show and everything on my set sounds great except my snare. It sounds like crap. It was decent a few days ago, until my snares snapped and I had to replace them. Now, the snares buzz horribly when other drums are struck no matter how tight or loose I set them. It didn't do this before. Aside from the snares, the rest of the snare drum sounds decent, but I'm not very satisfied with it. I don't really have much knowledge or experience in tuning drums well, anyways. I'm attempting to figure out how to get a nice high pitched crack without it being tuned too high, and I would also like to know how to tune it to get a nice mid-range sound that would sound great in the studio. I'm currently using an Evans HD Dry on the batter side, with an Evans Genera 200 Reso on the resonant side. Any input would be appreciated.

read it

and the snare may buzz when you hit drums because of the frequency or some stuff, idk for sure, but you're the only one that can hear it, so don't worry.

G1 + Hazy 300

using hazy 200 for a rock gig is asking for trouble

using hazy 200 for a rock gig is asking for trouble not arguing, but why?

EDIT: Every snare I've played with the dry HQ on it buzzed horribly, maybe it's a pattern

The HD DRY is a horrid head.

I would try tuning your snare 3 different ways. One is to tune the reso about a quarter turn more than the batter. Two is tune both heads the same. Last is to tune the batter higher than the reso. All of these combinations get you different sounds, it's just basically which sound you like the best.

Also heads may be a problem but honestly, you can get a decent sound out of almost any sound. Like you can tune stock heads so they sound OK, but not great.
