The batter head on my bass drum has broken!!! I've only had the thing for 3 months, and it just ups and breaks! It is an Evans EQ3, which shouldn't break, but it did. Now, that sticker thing that came with it, the thing that you put on the head where the beaters strike it, I put it on the head before I put my double pedal on, and I just guessed where the beaters would hit. So it ended up being about 4 inches below the beaters. This is why my head broke right? I mean, I can't see any reason why it would break otherwise. I'm going to buy a new head tomorrow, I have lots of money so I can buy a good quality head but I'm just pissed off that the head broke after so little time!

there are countless factors that couldve lead to the death of your bass drum head.
using any beater besides felt can easy eat it up, especially plastic or wood. having a bass drum patch can determine if it lives for 1 month or 1 year.
hard hitting couldve also been the case. the head couldve also been defective.
make sure when you put on a patch, that it goes on exactly where the beater hits.

Be sure to put on the patch really securely next time, that doesn't usually happen.

i had an EMAD II for about 4 or 5 months then it broke the night before a show, i had the patch on right where the beater hit. I was using the plastic side of the beater though and i kick kinda hard, and the evans patches that come with the heads seem flimsy to me

Were you using plastic, felt or wood.
Btw, is plastic harder than wood? And what does it change about the sound?
/sorry for hijacking

Did you tune it oddly?

wood will eat up any drumhead instantly. it has the most attack of all the beaters.

Rather than guessing where to put the patch on, push you beater(which should be in the place you want it to stay) against the bass drum, then pull back abit and put the patch on right where the beater was.

I have yet to break a bass drum head, aside from the stock one, without an impact badge. I've never really seen the point, but yeah, you should check what material your beater is made out of, the EQ3's are normally pretty good

I' e had my EMAD for about 3 months, with an AF patch on it. Nothing wrong with it. It's consistently stayed in tune. I had my Tama one on for about a year before that broke.
The coating on the AF patch is wearing off, and now it's nearly gone right through, i tink i'll have to buy another patch.
It's not the drumheads fault. It's your fault it broke. The drumhead can't break itself. you have to of had some part in it!
Basically, never use plastic or wood beaters without a patch
Nylon EQ - Less attack
Clear EQ - I don't see any difference in sound, just they protect the head for a while
AF patch - Made of kevlar, increase attack, huge life.
I have Wood beaters and AF patches, and my head is doing just fine...

It's probably the misplaced "sticker". I remember getting my brand new Evans EMAD batter head and giving it a few test kicks before putting on the patch. Boy, am I sorry that I did that, because it made the smallest pit that leads to the total destruction of every patch I buy much quicker than they should actually last.

I use a ps3 and a falam patch. Its fine,, I hit hard when I practice with the band but when I [play other genres I hit softer. Sometimes I smack the hell outa my bass drum and its perfect still!!!

Felt and Nylon EQ for me.
Apparently they shred beaters so im not gonna bother with my next head.
