Jason Shevchuck, of the now broken up bands None More Black and Kid Dynamite, has a new solo project now, OnGuard. I was blown away by the two songs up on his myspace. Seriously, I was expecting just some kind of average folk punk kind of thing, carried along only by his awesome vocals. But this isn't the case; it's really great music. One of the two songs is just him playing the piano, and the vocals fit really g'oddamn well. So yeah, listen.

No, they've broken up. It hasn't been officially announced I don't think, but check their site. It has a quote from the last episode from Seinfeld, which is appropriate considering all the songs that reference the show. And it seems to be the common consensus on the internet, or at least punknews.org.

Even though NMB havent officially broken up, signs are def pointing that way unfortunently. Jason is my favorite vocalist in music, but i wish he would stick w/ atleast a punk or hardcore band instead of the acoustic rock thing he's going for. I do like it, just rather hear him in a punk band. Also, the whole record will be available for free when he finishes it, so that's cool.

Sort of off topic, but it would be cool if him and Erik Peterson had a show together since they're both from Philly.

Just because they quoted Star wars it doesn't mean anything. I don't see how you interpret this as a beak up:

FADE IN: SPACE A sea of stars is broken by the vast blue surface of the planet, Utapau. Five small moons slowly drift into view from the far side of the planet. The main titles are followed by a roll-up: Until the recent Great Rebellion, the Jedi Bendu were the most feared warriors in the universe. For one hundred thousand years, generations of Jedi perfected their art as the personal bodyguards of the emperor. They were the chief architects of the invincible Imperial Space Force which expanded the Empire across the galaxy, from the celestial equator to the farthest reaches of the Great Rift. Now these legendary warriors are all but extinct. One by one they have been hunted down and destroyed as enemies of the New Empire by a ferocious and sinister rival warrior sect, the Knights of Sith. A small silver spacecraft emerges from behind one of the Utapau moons. The deadly little fightercraft speeds past several of the moons, until it finally goes into orbit around the fourth moon.

I didn't, I read that other people did. I read a couple of sentences from the actual site, and then stopped because yeah. I guess they changed it. But still, there are no tour dates, and no other news articles besides that. The fact that the band hasn't come and said "we are no breaking up" even after a month of the rumor going around also leads me to believe that they are breaking up. As does the making of OnGuard, and Jason's recent update about how he is actually really focusing on it.

Anyway, yeah. It's not a big deal.

thats the new quote, the old one was of the last scene ever form seinfeld, and if you're a fan of NMB at all you know Jason and the band are huge fans of the show and always quote it. so, to quote the last scene of the show would probably mean its the bands "last scene". you get the simile....

but i do love this new project of Jason's. I will support him no matter what he does. im sure down the line he'll come back with another punk band and it'll be great, but i think this is a great new side of him, a good change. definately anxious for the cd this spring/summer
