muse
am i the only one who thinks this band outright, plain and simple, ****ing sucks?
i mean, calling them overrated is one thing. because overrated can still be good. ie: led zeppelin is overrated by critics and sixteen year old "rocker kids", but they're still a pretty good rock band.
but i just cant see why muse are popular? or considered good?
share opinions here.
You're pretty much correct here.
Muse is gooood stuff.
It's all about Citizen Erased.

Thing I hate most is when they get compared to Radiohead. It's just a stupid comparison.

Muse are alright, overrated, but alright. OoS is a good album.

I'm not a huge fan. I like a few of their songs ("Hysteria" and "Thoughts of a Dying Athiest"), but for the most part I agree they blow.

I have to disagree with most of you. Muse are probably my second favourite band, I think they're incredible. Personally, I don't think "this band outright, plain and simple, ****ing sucks" is at all creative or even worth a thread but whatever.
One more thing, I have never understood the comparison with Radiohead. They don't sound anything like them (thank God) and even if they did, there is no reason to get angry over it. It's just that wingey retard Thom Yorke and his fans being desperate for attention as normal.
Thanks for registering to say that.

Damn, this is a really bad first impression of this site.

Muse are seriously one of the worst bands I've ever listened to. Well, that's not totally true. But I was expecting something at least decent with all the hype. Huge disappointment. I don't understand how anyone can listen to these dudes. Please swallow a grenade.
But I'm dei.
I don't like Radiohead that much either, save Kid A.

meh. muse's singles are ok but they're not something i can see myself listening to. and radiohead gets boring so whatever.
Hmm, I think if you ignore what other people say about the band, Muse do make some pretty catchy pop-rock songs. Admittedly, when they try and pass themselves off as a modern-prog band it all goes a bit wrong, but Supermassive Black Hole is 100% danceable.

I used to hate on Radiohead all the time, throwing them on that list of bands that some people force themselves to like because without them you'll get no "cred." with the dudes. It was a bit of BS but I don't take it back. Radiohead really isn't that great.

I rip on OK Computer because it makes people mad, and sometimes I like to do that for the LOL. I think that's a big reason why some people hated me, and I understand. But serious stuff, dude. Calm down.

ripping on Radiohead gets you more cred than not doing so. For instance, I rip on OK Computer all the time, because it's mediocre.
Nacho with the correct opinion there.
Muse's latest album is horrific, but the first three are varying degrees of awesome, with Origin Symmetry being the best. Anyone who can't see the Radiohead comparisons is a dolt, it's not like they don't have more than one influence.

i like black holes, but matt bellamy could never write an interesting lyric if his life depended on it. the music is uninteresting in the same way, but the band is energetic enough, and has enough time/money to wank around in the studio to pull off a decent imitation of bands that have some redeeming merits who took the same path. in short, the most one-dimensional and at the same time grandiose band ever.

you should get Kid A i like it better than both of those cds

hey sweet thats the first time ive heard someone say that. i always heard about it being like one of the greatest albums of all time and easily radioheads best and omg its so experimental and new and revolutionary bla bla bla. so i eventually download and listen but its just a bunch of pretty good pop rock songs and a little electronic tomfoolery. i mean its okay i listen to it i enjoy it but its over rated in my opinion
i love how a muse thread always turns into a radiohead thread.
haha anyway i like muse too theyre not one of my favorite bands and some of their songs are cheesy but theyre not really one dimensional, they write songs in a lot of styles. some of their songs are just ****in eppiiiccc too. ill listen to a cd now (i was gonna check out ok computer again but ill listen to muse) and try and find a good one. seriously muse isnt that bad theyre a little cheesy sometimes but they dont "plain and simple outright ****in suck"

I can understand that. There are a few bands that I don't particularly care about but wouldn't say that I dislike them or anything. Data Panik is a good example of this. I could never get into them but I can respect them.

I think they were pretty popular around the time of the Hysteria/Time Is Running Out singles, but after that it died down quite a lot, and I really haven't heard their new CD mentioned too much aroudn here.

They're a great band, but I've sort of grown apart from them for no apparant reason. I still consider Origin of Symmetry a magnificent album. Showbiz is solid as well. The new one seems to be too (I haven't really listened enough to it, and I probably won't). Absolution is meh.

I haven't heard a lot of non-radio stuff from them, but the radio stuff never inspired me to purchase any of their albums. I like them more than some mainstream radio bands, but not enough to do anything other than not turn off the radio when a song of theirs plays.

Muse is one of those bands that I like when I'm in the mood for them, otherwise I regard them as decent. So, currently, I'd say they're decent.
Forgot to mention: I saw them live in September at Austin City Limits. The show was extremely high energy, though in my opinion it was because of the fans more than the band. Their live sound was good, but maybe a little too noisy...and Bellamy tends to get wanky on the guitar.
