They've gotta pretend to have something to be grateful for. I know I wouldn't be very grateful if all I ate was flavorless crap and vitamins.

Vegans shouldn't feed their babies breast milk, since that is an animal product. Think about that for eight to ten minutes.

in a vegan context refers to material derived from non-human animals for human use or consumption. Human breast milk for example is acceptable when voluntarily used for human babies

I'm not saying it's the right choice or a bad choice, or anything. It's just a choice that people make about how they want to live. It doesn't affect you or anyone else except the person that's a vegetarian/vegan. Well, unless it's a parent and they cook for their kids. But I don't understand how anyone could be against it. I don't force people to become vegetarians and I couldn't care less if they eat meat or not. It's just something that I can't do.

My friend is a vegetarian because he dislikes how animals are treated. Yes, him not eating it doesn't actually make it better, it's just his principles.

If someone doesn't want to wear fur because it's made from an animal... that's their choice too. It doesn't technically do anything either, just makes them feel like their making a difference maybe, even though they're actually not, which doesn't matter.

There is actually a reason to load hate onto vegan/vegetarians. Ever met the stupid nazi ones who tell you off for eating meat? "OMG I can't believe your eating that, do you know how many animals died to make that? OMG!!!". This is why I hate them.

Side note: Animal rights protestors never throw paint on the Hell's Angels, even thought they wear waaay more animal skins than society ladies. Think about it. (Props to Terry Pratchett for having this idea)

Not neccesarily hate you, definatly hate them, and reserve my right to make politically incorrect jokes about vegetarianism. The way animals are treated is horrific, to say the least, but eating meat isn't. We were meant to eat meat, and we should embrace that. Becoming a vegetarian is a good choice to make, and nobody should get knocked for it, but if they're going to fight a cause, let it be animal cruelty, not eating meat.

see, I don't really want to get in a debate about this, because people never get it, but eating meat is supporting animal cruelty. Have you ever seen how farms treat their animals? Not tiny little home made farms, but the big ones that end up supplying all the meat and dairy to grocery stores? It is horrible. Yes, we are meant to eat meat, and I know several vegans who would eat a deer if it was shot in the woods, but they do no wish to support the modern day meat industry.

dei
11-27-2006, 11:24 AM
You could get meat from free range farms. If not that, at least check out some grass fed and grass finished farm place businesses. It's healthier for you.

There's still some more research that needs to be done as the definition for free range is not really agreed upon, or whatever. Some people claim to be free range when the chickens are still kept in cages. The cages are just... a bit larger than in most other farms. :(

Marc Johnson
11-27-2006, 11:28 AM
I 100% agree with both of you on this, and I do get my meat from sources where I know the animal was on a free range and wasn't mistreated. I agree that buying meat from the meat industry is supporting animal cruelty, I'm just arguing those who think killing an animal for meat, whether it was shot with a bow in the woods or hit by a car, is heartless and cruel.

I'm not quite sure what thanksgiving is all about (isn't it something to do with americans killing a bunch of oppressors?) or why anyone would become vegan/ vegetarian (no offence meant I just never understood why).

I won't eat cheap meat because of the way it is produced (it has its place but I don't agree with it), so its either free range or properly farmed meat for me. I would rather have the quality than the quantity.

ok then your respecting their viewpoints by not attacking them, even though you think they're apeshit crazy

Leaving them alone isn't respecting them. I could still think their morons, but i'm civil enough to not beat them. See?

Hey Ron lunch is over and I'm back. Two things: I think we have different definitions of respect, I consider not harassing someone about their opinion respecting it, and second of all, again, let me just ask you this simple question, and we will put it to rest.
A simple yes or no will do.
Do you, or have you ever considered standing up for your beleifs ridiculous?

No, it's not wrong to stand up fro what you think is right. But don't expect other people to respect you just because you think it's right.

Okay, then we agree.

I don't expect anyone to respect the idea.

Really? All the bikie gangs here wear all leather, all the time. Also they kill you if you wear their colours and aren't a member. Nice guys despite that though...

The whole purpose of wearing leather is to prevent road rash in the event of a crash. According to Hunter Thompson's book, the Hells Angels reject all safety features, leather included

Well fu'ck me down dead, we learn something new every day. I need to get a copy of that book, I can only find a handful of Thompson's stuff here, and its a tad hypocritical to have a freak power tattoo over your heart and not have read Hell's Angels

It's pretty good, though a bit boring in the first half, since that part mostly talks about the history of the Hells Angels
