these guys are tight. they bring an orignal sound with that familiar, well-loved brutality metal seems to have lost. any other JfaC fans?

I like Entombment of a Machine. I actually enjoy listening to the pig squeals and I think his low growls are great. Sounds like death metal vocals over hardcore music.

Exhales*

Pig squeels aren't always inhaled.

Johnny would be a case of exhaled pigs.

I like how they play really generic death metal that's pretty simplistic, yet somehow manage to sound original and great.

Correct. Every song sounds the exact same.

If it weren't for the vox and drumming, I'd lol @ them.

Dylan, take What We Once Called Home, follow it with Entombment Of A Machine, then Knee Deep, then Suspended By The Throat, then Dead, Stale Endings.

All of their songs sound the same? I left out 4 of their songs, woo!

ok br00tal wasnt the right word... idk. the vocals are tight! the guitar, i think, is what takes away from the brutality they could have. too few notes, and too many one-note speed picks. and the distortion is very... fluffy.
BUT, if youre suggesting the only thing that can be brutal are those bands that play 5000 notes per minute and growl off-tempo... i dont like those bands. mine is a structured brain, and that much chaos comes off as a lack of planning or trying. idk. i just dont like TOO much chaos.

now ive realized how bad i feel for the vocalist. cuz hes stuck with a boring guitarist. poor guy. and poor us. we coulda had much better music with a dif guitarist.

Yeah, JFAC is more of a pseudo-jazzy "brutal" death band... not really that great, but for some reason I love them.

TTEOTD started out as a Gothenburg-esque melodic death band with breakdowns, and then evolved into something that is like an onslaught of switching between melodic death and tech death every other riff.

I listened to all of Doom the other day inspired by this thread, and you know for what they're doing it isn't all THAT repetitive. There's still some room for a little maturity in the song writing department though.

It also reminded me of SOTU this year. JFAC came on, they were pretty good btw, and you could see a lot of the typical "scene kids" doin' there ninja fighting and headbanging. I expected that, seeing as I knew JFAC were popular amongst the crowd.

When Behemoth came on, I could tell they didn't have many fans, but by the time they got to Demigod most of the same people that were getting into JFAC, tight-as-hell pants and hair in front of there eye(s), were really enjoying Behemoth. I thought that was cool. Makes me feel better about "scene kids" liking JFAC's sound more and more.

I really like Johnny Dawry's lyrics.

His landscape has been scorned with death.
Once a city now laid to ash.
A decaying father has left his bastard son with his addictions at his side.
Chased away, consumed from his fixations, this mans life went down in flames.
Chased away what he's created, his hunger grows.
There is no end to this life of fixations, he remains a walking corpse as his legs will move forward.
For his addictions itch at his throat only to crave more of the blood he seeks.
When buried, his tomb will breathe, his hands will rise from his grave begging only for sleep.
Dear father, I'll be waiting, I've saved you a seat in hell.
For this man only thirsts for blood, the blood of his child, he stands knee deep in the blood of his bastard son.

They have an Immortal t-shirt at the Hot Topic near here.

I got My Sons of Northern Darkness shirt in there. I try not to spent too much time in there because I hate it when the employees ask me if I need any help.

Here we got a music store called F.Y.E. For Your Entertainment. There is a section in the store that is just Heavy Metal and all the sub-genres. It's isn't in the pop/rock like everywhere else.

It was probably Domination. That's the one I usually see there. I saw Altars there once, but that's it.

Yeah I wanted to get that shirt, but I think I was broke at the time.

the FYE at Arundel Mills near me is pretty huge and has a massive kick @$$ metal section. Its the place where I traded in a bunch of cds and got 1.2K in store credit.

yeah it was a buttload of cds, and they gave me about 1/3 of them back because they already had them in stock. So I took those to Record and Tape Traders and got 300 bucks in store credit (which gets you a lot there, due to better prices). So I got about 1.5k worth of merchandise total.

Oh and the FYE over here in Hanover, MD has a huge metal section with a lot of good stuff.

wow. i would love to see you people sound like that. some of their stuff does sound similar, but its a good sound. theyre pretty brootal, especially in this day of chiodos and queer bands like that.

and they do sound pretty original. sure they didnt innovate the genre TOO much, but c'mon, theres not MUCH like em. show me a band like em and ill **** my pants.

or maybe the band that most these bands want to be, Suffocation

I like JFAC's full length better than the EP. It was a little more death metaly and less scene myspace bandy. Hehe.

Though I didn't find it very memorable. I don't recall any of the songs except for one, which was because it was at a slower pace than the rest of the album.

Doom is more trendy, what with melodic riffing, breakdowns, and pig squeels, but the album actually has heart to it.... Genesis just seems to lack the feel and well written aspects of Doom.

Yeah, I dunno, Genesis is good when I'm drunk and when I try really hard to ignore the solos, but after Andrew and Elliot left the band, they kind of lost all appeal aside from live shows.

I will still stand by Doom as one of my favorite death metal [in general] albums. The Rising Tide and Relinquished are such goddamn powerful songs.
