So this is copy pasta. But it could be fun. :chug:

So anyway:

As a pointless waste of time i have invented a system to work out who you consider to be the best group in the world right now. It is not fair or fun. It is harsh and holistic. It makes no sense at all. Do it anyway.

Choose a group that has toured in the last two years and is still functioning as a band. No solo artists. If they go under the name of a musician rather than a collective name the are out.

Mark each one of their studio albums out of ten being as honest and critical as you can. No live albums, anthologies, EPs or singles. Just studio albums.

Ask yourself how good a live band they are and rate it out of ten.

Add the resulting figures together and subtract the number of people in the band.

Post here with the results and tell us how you came to this conclusion.

The highest number is your nomination for Best Band in the World right now.

Example:

Modest Mouse

This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About - 8/10
The Lonesome Crowded West - 9/10
The Moon and Antarctica - 10/10
Good News for People Who Love Bad News - 8/10

Live - 9/10

Memebers - 5 (I am not counting Marr yet )

Total = 44 - 5 = 39.

The system has it's strengths despite the chronic lack of logic.

It is hype proof. No matter how great a record label wants you to think The Killers are, this system will not allow such a ridiculous concept. This method gives credence to bands that have been consistently excellent. If you aren't getting high scores, consider the possibility that you are listening to music that is rather dispensable.

The logic of this system is completely asinine. It's obscenely biased towards small bands that have put out a lot of albums.

This is seriously dumb.

The Rolling Stones or The Who or something automatically win, due to sheer weight of albums.

but I would assume this isn't to be taken seriously

It is not fair or fun. It is harsh and holistic.

Take your irreverence elsewhere.
