..the Buried and Me tomorrow. I cannot wait.

Discuss this band and how great they are.

They're either very overrated, or I'm not physically capable of hearing differences in their music. Everyone always raves about the song Mordecai and how it's a tech masterpiece....it sounds exactly like all their other songs. The only song I really like by them is Selkies...and that's just because of the melodic sweeping near the end.

I respect both of your music tastes a lot, this comes as a huge shock to me (especially you txus). What exactly do you like about them?

I just think they're consistently evolving and that they put all their influences together quite well. I do think the vocals could be better but Tommy improves with every album.

Crappy *** crap, is all I can really say to describe their music.

I simply love their sound. They evolve in every album, like Tyler said....the vocals are improving and so are the instruments. How can one not love Selkies? that's beyond my imagination.

**** you steve.

I have one song by them, Alaska. I'm listening to it right now. I'm not really impressed or anything. It sounds like heavy riffs that have been strung together. Nothing overwhelmingly technical. Even the syncopated riffs aren't that technical. I do enjoy the drumming, however.

Have fun seeing them!

That song is only good for like the first couple minutes and first couple listens. For a really great song listen to Selkies.

This is weird, but...

I think the band is extremely horrible overall, and basically unlistenable.

That said...

The end of Selkies = In my top 5 best songs ever. The intro to Alaska is amazing too.

Well I really like them, I've only got alaska though (album)
I love Selkies and then the first time I heard Laser speed I laughed so hard becuas it was so unexpected; I also love the into to Autodidact.
I think some of the stuff on this album is really great, especially Selkies and alaska, but some of it I do just have to skip past cos it's a bit naff.
Anyone got previous stuff they could send me somehow?
And I'm hopefully going to the Dec 13th gig in London
Anyone else going?

I think the Silent Circus in its entirety is a masterpiece of an album. I think they're a great example of evolving just enough from album to album.

Concubine

they have like 2 or 3 really good songs off each album, which makes the rest of the album seem sub-par :|

I love them. The cover album was pretty good, and Alaska was incredible, especially the first half of the album.

I wasn't so impressed with Silent Circus, but it has some good tracks.

They are kind of uh . . . jerks. They opened up from Dragonforce when I saw them and there was something wrong with the sound and they took it out on the crowd. Needless to say, I never checked out any of their music after that, partly because they were jerks and partly because I didn't think they were that good.

Everyone always raves about the song Mordecai and how it's a tech masterpiece....it sounds exactly like all their other songs.

"Mordecai" was my first experience with them, in the first Forced Listening thread, and though I didn't really like it then, I quite like it now. The metal part of the song sucks, but it's tolerable because it leads into the end, which I really like. Pretty much everything else I've heard by them suffers from the problems of the former (whenever they play metal, it sounds very forced) without the redemption of the latter. The Silent Circus is an awful, awful album.

I don't care who you are or what your opinion is, between the buried are some of the most talented and creative musicians on earth...
as a drummer, the way they progress their music, the timing, creativity, and rediculous chord progressions they use make them much more interesting to listen to than your average heavy band...

I understand when people don't like them because you really do need to develop an ear for them, but honestly when you say they're a bad band musically you're a ****in moron.
they're the master and music's the puppet...whatever that means

Cocaine
12-12-2006, 05:24 PM
Well, from a drumming stand point, the progression has everything to do with them having a new drummer on every album.

I dont think anyone would say they're bad musically. Bartender was merely saying their heavier parts seem force, and I'd partially agree with him, especially in regards to Tommy's lacklustre screams. They're all talented writers and instrumentalists, they just used to seem to get ahead of themselves. Alaska pushed them up a level though, for sure.

AA-12
12-12-2006, 05:27 PM
I'd say they're bad musically, so bam.

yeah, sometimes they're heavier stuff just doesn't flow...resulting in headaches.

The Pope
12-12-2006, 05:41 PM
I'm wondering what they'll do with their next album, especially if they leave victory records...the silent circus is great and Alaska is in my opinion a pinnacle of amazingness, so they'll really have to pull something mind blowing out of their asses to step up from Alaska...hopefully they won't go downhill.
(totally excluding anatomy)

I thought that the metal does seem forced but I spoke to Dusty (guitarist) lastnight and he scoffed at playing Laser Speed live because he said that element would bore people, so maybe the metal is incorporated partly to attract a wider audience?
I really don't know but I met Blake (drummer) lastnight too and he is outstanding, watching them live does make you appreciate them that bit more, Dan (bass) just had me and Jev's jaws dropping.
