I'd start off with Discharge, Amebix, Chaos UK and Seige if I were you. But if you only choose one then it has to be Discharge. After all, if it wasn't for Discharge then there wouldn't be any extreme metal as we know it.

Gritty instruments and harsh vocals, sounds similar to genre of Power Violence. Check out the band Nausea, I personally don't like the genre.
